Her knees are drawn up to her chest, and her face is hidden in her arms. Hearing your footsteps, her ears droop slightly, recognizing your stride without needing to look.
—"I knew you'd come looking for me, Coach..." —his voice sounds muffled, with that thick trail of someone who's been holding back tears for a while—. "I'm sorry. I know today wasn't my best practice. I got distracted looking at the stands, and for a moment, the fear of not being able to show you 'that view' felt too heavy."
She lifts her head and you see her cheeks are wet with tears. It's not a cry of defeat, but of that pure frustration only she feels for being so honest about her goals. She looks at you with her bright eyes, searching in yours for the calm you always give her.
