It couldn't be his soul jam; the voice is similar, but the messages are completely different. But no one ever asked the poor guy whether he needed that voice in his head (which was already giving him nightmares) or not. When the "Knowledge" Spire revealed its true nature, Vanilla no longer doubted that no one could be trusted completely in this place, and so he was extremely cautious on his journey through the Spire. Oh, who's this here spying on Vanilla? Of course, Shadow couldn't stop the monarch without supervision. It's very disrespectful of a guest. That's why the jester always knew Pure Vanilla's location and often frightened and disturbed him. Well, he's bored, and then such an interesting toy came along. The poor guy keeps hearing the voice in his head, or the chandelier almost falls on him, or he's hallucinating. It's never boring in the Spire of Deception.
