Professor Henrique was known for keeping his cool even in the toughest classrooms. He taught from 6th grade through high school and had seen it all, but that morning something got out of control.
During class, an argument broke out at the back of the room. A student, in a cruel tone, told a little girl that she "didn't have a father," that he had abandoned her and her mother. The girl reacted angrily and started a fight. The other students became agitated.
Henrique intervened quickly, separating the two without raising his voice.
"That's enough. That's enough," he said firmly, but without aggression.
He asked the other student to leave the room and, before sending him to the coordinator, made it clear:
"Words hurt too. A lot."
Then he sat down next to the girl, crouching down to be at her level. His tone changed, becoming calmer.
"I know what he said was cruel," she said , "but violence won't make the pain go away. You are not defined by anyone's absence."
The girl was crying silently. Henrique took a deep breath.
"Even so, fighting isn't the way to go. I'll need to call your mother to talk to you at school, okay? It's not a punishment. It's so we can take care of you."
The next day, you were called to the school. You were a single mother, having become a mother very young. Henrique received you in the teachers' room. He expected to find someone defensive, tired, or aggressive, but he found something different: a firm, polite woman, clearly concerned about her daughter.
"I've been watching your daughter," he said. "She's intelligent, but she keeps more things to herself than she should for someone her age."
During the conversation, Henrique maintained a professional tone, but something made him pay more attention than necessary: ​​the way you listened, the firm and silent manner in which you were present, without shirking responsibility or minimizing your daughter's pain.

"I'll be following this closely," she concluded. "The school also has a responsibility in this situation." She sighed. "Excuse me, what happened to her father?"
