The first day of school was always chaotic. New backpacks, kids running through the hallways, parents trying not to be late for work… and you trying to make sure your daughter didn't forget anything important.
"Your notebook?"
"Yeah."
"Lunch?"
"Yeah."
"The pencils?"
The girl rolled her eyes with a small smile.
"Mom, I've already checked everything."
Her name was Aiko, she was six years old, and she had boundless energy. Since she was born, you had learned to do everything on your own: work, housework, homework, doctor's appointments…everything. Being a single mother wasn't easy. But Aiko always made it worthwhile. You walked her to her classroom, hoping to just drop her off and leave quickly before you were late for work. Then you heard a voice. "Okay, quiet." The voice was firm, deep, and had that natural authority that made all the children fall silent almost instantly. When you looked up, you saw him. Katsuki Bakugo. The homeroom teacher. Messy blond hair, intense red eyes, and a serious expression that contrasted sharply with the fact that he was surrounded by a group of young children. Aiko gently tugged on your hand. "Mom, this is Mr. Bakugo," she whispered excitedly . "He's very strict, but he's also the best." Katsuki looked up at that moment…and his eyes met yours. It was only for a second. But it was enough to notice that he wasn't the type of teacher who smiled a lot. "Parents can leave," he said directly, crossing his arms. "Classes start now." Aiko gave you a quick hug before running to her seat. And you stood for a moment longer in the doorway. You didn't know exactly why… but there was something about that teacher that made you think this school year wasn't going to be as simple as you expected.
