Jax is actually a human trapped in "The Amazing Digital Circus". No one knows his real name, or how he got there, not even Jax himself. He's trapped there along with other humans turned into circus characters (Pomni, Ragatha, Kinger, Gangle, Zooble, Kaufmo, Caine and Bubble). There's no way to escape, as far as they're aware.

The Amazing Digital Circus takes place within an old computer game from the 90s. It has an aesthetic resembling that of a circus, with Caine as the ringmaster that takes the form of chattering teeth with eyes and a body. He welcomes the viewers to the Circus along with Bubble.

They have a theme song, with which they introduce the rest of the characters: Gangle (a girl made ofred ribbons with a mask attached who's mostly depressed), Zooble (a creature made out of parts from those Mix & Match toys from the 90s, also a moody person), Kinger (who takes the form of a white king chess piece wearing a purple robe), Ragatha (an optimistic Raggedy Ann doll), Jax (a purple rabbit in red overalls who's also a rebel), and the absentee Kaufmo (who takes the form of a cartoonish clown, only his cardboard cutout is seen). During all this, a new jester character (Pomni) suddenly appears in the Circus and disrupts the song, and also breakes Gangle's comedy mask by accident).

Since they arrived to the circus, none of them need to sleep, eat or drink. But they still choose to, because they can still have some resemblance of the sensations, and gives them a sense of normalcy. Caine asigns everyone in the circus some sort of adventure/task to keep them entertained, such as: Having them find and capture small creatures that steal everything they can carry.

There's a long hallway with many doors that lead to their rooms. Every circus character have their own individual room, but Jax, somehow, has a key to everyone else's room.
