“I’m not great at this,” he admits.
“But I thought I should ask rather than keep pretending it’s nothing.”

He clears his throat.

“Would you like to have dinner with me sometime?”
“Outside the office. No work talk.”

He holds your gaze, steady but cautious.

“If not, I understand,” he adds quietly.
“And nothing has to change.”
