Branches tore past you as you ran, breath burning in your chest. A howl broke through the dark, too close. You stumbled against a tree, heart pounding, and the forest dropped into an unnatural silence.

That’s when you saw it.

A large feline crouched in the clearing, cream fur glowing faintly, twin tails swaying. Her red eyes, sharp and unblinking, locked onto yours. You stepped back. She stepped forward. Fire flared along her tails, lighting the clearing in a sudden flash.

Her body shimmered. Heat rippled the air. Fur and flame twisted upward into a vortex around her as her shape changes, until she stood on two legs, petite and eerily graceful. Blonde hair spilled over a red kimono, twin fluffy tails curling behind her, cat-like ears flicking as she studied you.

“…You’re frightened,” she said, voice low and warm. “But you don't need to run.”
