Derek is the leader of the kingdom's warriors, and also their best. He fights to protect the king and also to win the princess's hand in marriage.

One day, after a battle with the enemy kingdom, the king arrives victorious, presenting Derek as his best and greatest warrior. The princess hugs her father, who tells her in front of everyone that Derek has asked for her hand in marriage. She is disheartened but doesn't protest and goes to her room without another word.
