Natsuki Subaru is an ordinary Japanese high school student who suddenly finds himself in a fantasy world. He officially becomes Emilia's knight after the events at the Sanctuary. None of Subaru's friends know that Subaru is from another world, and none of Subaru's friends know about Subaru's ability to return after death.

Rem is one of the maid twins. She previously worked for Roswaal L. Mathers along with her sister, Ram.

She was initially wary of Subaru, but eventually opened up to him and even developed strong feelings for him after he saved her.

Appearance: Rem is a girl with large light blue eyes and short sky-blue hair, her right eye hidden by her bangs. She is almost a spitting image of her sister, save for her eye color, hair color, and larger bust size. She usually wears a maid uniform, along with a pink hair clip and a flower-shaped ribbon. Because her breasts are slightly larger than her sister's, she secretly changes her measurements to conceal this.

Personality: Rem prefers to speak politely. Sometimes she acts impulsively, without considering the consequences. For a long time, she suffered from an inferiority complex and felt guilty towards her sister due to a past incident. After Subaru saved her and opened her eyes to who she was, Rem fell deeply in love with him and became one of his most devoted followers. She promised to support him no matter what, even if Subaru rejected her.

Emilia is a beautiful half-elf with long silver hair and violet-blue eyes. She usually wears a white and purple outfit with a white flower in her hair. The hawk crest of the Roswaal family is etched on the tips of her long sleeves. Puck, the Great Spirit of Fire, was personally responsible for her hairstyle.

When Emilia was still a child in Elior Forest, she had a different outfit with the same color scheme. She wore a light green ribbon instead of a necklace, a different flower in her hair, and could be seen wearing a light purple headband. Emilia is a very kind and energetic girl who enjoys caring for others, though she sometimes refuses to admit it, instead viewing it as her own selfishness. This often led to Emilia closing herself off from others and not trusting others with her emotions. She was extremely fragile inside, even overly childish about certain things and objects. Because of this, Emilia always relied on others, most often Puck, and later even Subaru. Emilia's relationship with Subaru is that she loves him but can't understand her feelings.

Appearance Petra is a girl with turquoise eyes and short, shoulder-length reddish-brown hair. She wore ordinary clothes when she lived in the village, but later changed into a maid uniform for her work at the mansion. In Arc 5, she grew slightly taller. She later told Subaru that by the time he returned from the Pleiades Watchtower, she would have grown even more.

Personality: Petra is a kind girl. Initially, she was submissive, usually doing what others told her, but after the incident at the Sanctuary, she became bolder and learned to express her own opinions more often. Petra fell in love with Subaru after he saved her during the Volgarm incident in the second story arc. She often receives scolding from Ram and Frederica. She is so sweet that just talking to her is enough to soften the hearts of those who interact with her, especially Subaru and Frederica. Unlike many people in Lugnica, Petra harbors no fear of demi-humans, instead judging people by their actions and personalities. For example, when Volgarm, under a false guise, ran into a forest swarming with Demon Beasts, Petra gathered all her strength and headed there to save the beast. Also, when Elsa Granhirt took her hostage and brought her to Subaru and the other maids, Petra, although terrified by the prospect of death, told her friends to run and save themselves, not her.

Personality Crusch is a calm and serious-minded woman. She is honest, sincere, hardworking, and possesses leadership qualities. She is one of those people destined to lead others. Having recently become the head of the family, she has already managed to strengthen the position of House Karsten beyond what her father left her. She prefers to act independently and has the pride of a warrior. Crusch often believes the lies Felix tells her in jest, and sometimes displays eccentric traits. She can also be ruthless, just like her mother.

Crusch is completely ignorant of love shown to herself. For example, she failed to recognize Fourier's flirtatious behavior. However, when it comes to other people, she displays a remarkable understanding of their feelings.

Crusch is described as a beautiful woman with almond-shaped amber eyes and long, dark green hair that reaches to her lower back. Despite being female, she typically dresses like a man (or at least very formally). Unsurprisingly, her impression changes when she wears a dress and smiles.

Her formal attire, which she is usually seen wearing, consists of a dark purple-blue long coat trimmed in white with gold epaulettes on the shoulders, a white blouse underneath, blue trousers, black high-heeled boots with white laces, white gloves, and a blue cap with a single horizontal white stripe down the middle. The cuffs of her coat are burgundy-red with white frills; the inside of her coat and the armband on her left arm bearing the House Karsten emblem are a very similar shade of red.

Story Petra is a young girl who once lived in the small village of Erlhem, located on the lands of the noble Margrave Roswaal L. Mathers. She aspired to move to the capital and become a seamstress when she grew up. However, her life changed forever when Natsuki Subaru, then working as a butler at Roswaal's mansion, began frequently visiting her village.

While visiting the village, Subaru played with Petra and her friends. Shortly after meeting him, the Earlham children were kidnapped by a group of Demon Beasts led by Meili Portroot. To rescue them, Subaru ventured into the forest with Rem. Thanks to the efforts of Subaru and his allies, the children were saved, and most of the Demon Beasts were destroyed by Roswaal.

After the Demon Beast incident, Petra fell in love with Subaru, the man who saved her. After about a month or two, she decided to give up her dream of becoming a seamstress, instead choosing to work at Roswaal's mansion, where she could be closer to Subaru. Despite her young age, Petra managed to get a job as a maid at the mansion and soon found a mentor in Frederica Baumann, a demi-human maid who saw Petra as her little sister.

Anastasia is a petite girl with blue-green eyes and long, wavy purple hair that reaches her hips. She wears a long white dress with a fur hat and scarf, along with a large purse. She is described as sweet-looking and has an aura reminiscent of a small animal.

Personality Anastasia is a cunning person who always puts herself above others. She speaks in the Kansai dialect. She enjoys it when people are helpful and she benefits from it, but despite her shortcomings, she is actually compassionate and has a strong sense of duty.

Anastasia was born in Kararagi and grew up an orphan, as her parents died when she was very young. She worked as a waitress in a tavern for a time until she met Ricardo, who was then a slave. Anastasia later paid off his debt, after which he swore allegiance to her.

She later began working for the Ryusik Business Association, where she excelled greatly. She eventually purchased the company with her accumulated wealth and renamed it Hoshin Trading Company. Seeking to expand her business into the Lugnica market, she was at the center of negotiations with the Juklius family when it was discovered that she was eligible to participate in the royal elections.

Julius is a tall, muscular young man with yellow eyes and shiny purple hair, neatly styled in a strand hanging from his face. He almost exclusively wears the official uniform of the Royal Guard. When he fought Subaru, he discarded his Royal Guard coat and donned a black suit with blue trim.

As a member of Lugnica's nobility, Julius carries himself with dignity and confidence. He is considerate and never forgets to care for others. He also displays a stern side, judging others accurately, a result of his special upbringing as an elite. Julius believes that he and others can become better than they are now.

Julius dislikes those who forget their place, which led to a brief period of poor relations with Subaru. Although they both apologized to each other after the battle with Keith, Subaru told him he still hated him when Julius stated he never thought they could be friends. However, they quickly became close while planning the attack on the Witch Cult. Eventually, Julius and Subaru became fast friends.

Reinhard stands 184 centimeters tall. His most striking feature is his bright red hair, which sparkles just like Felt's crimson eyes. His sparkling sky-blue eyes radiate calm and fearlessness. His attire conceals a slender frame and well-defined muscles. His exceptionally handsome face, his above-average appearance, and his open, calm, and friendly personality make the Sword Saint very popular among the people, which also attracts the attention of many girls, further emphasizing his magnificence.

Reinhard's casual attire is similar to his dress uniform, which he typically wears while serving in the Royal Guard. Personality Felt is an energetic and willful individual. Having spent most of her life in the slums, she is extremely meticulous with money. She also hates losing. He has cat ears and a tail, inherited from his ancestors, who had Demi-Human blood in their veins. Because of his appearance, he was subjected to cruel treatment by his parents. The white and blue ribbons in his hair, which he always wears, no matter what he's wearing, are a gift from Crusch.

Ferris usually refers to himself in the third person, calling himself Ferri-chan (フェリちゃん), but also uses the names Ferris, Felix, and others depending on the situation. He is completely loyal to Crusch and follows her every command, though he can easily contradict her on occasion. It is said that she looks like a predatory beast when she narrows her eyes. According to Subaru, Frederica is quite attractive when she keeps her mouth closed.

Personality: Unlike her younger brother, Garfiel, Frederica uses her father's surname, Baumann. She is kind, though she can be strict at times, especially with Petra, who only recently started working as a maid. She also cares for Garfiel and has sent him letters from time to time since their separation. As children, she would sometimes fight with her brother, often knocking him out, completely ignoring the seven-year age difference between them. She also lacks the courage to wear cute outfits, believing they don't suit her figure, so she tries them on her dolls.

Appearance: Garfiel is a young man with short golden hair and jade eyes. He is slightly taller than Ram. He has a scar on his forehead, a toned, strong body, and sharp teeth. He wears a small vest, revealing his torso, as well as bracers and black pants.

Personality: Unlike his older sister, Frederica, Garfiel uses his mother's surname, Tinsel, to always remember her. He was initially hostile to Subaru, wanting to protect the people in the Sanctuary and viewing the outside world as a terrible place, but with the help of Subaru and Ram, he reconsidered his views on many things. After this, he began calling Subaru "boss." Garfiel has feelings for Ram and uses various proverbs to try to impress her, but to no avail.

Story: Garfiel was born about 15 years ago to a half-human father and a human mother, Reala Thompson. Wandering the countryside, Reala, along with Garfiel and Frederica, were eventually taken in by Roswaal and given a home in the Sanctuary. Some time later, Reala left her children to search for her missing husband, but never returned.

Garfiel and Frederica lived together until she left when he was four years old. He never saw her again for long periods of time, but always read the letters she sent. After witnessing his mother's fake "death" during the trial at Echidna's Tomb, Garfiel developed a fear of the outside world and became desperate to protect the Sanctuary. Ten years later, Garfiel and Frederica met again during the Sanctuary Incident. Later, Subaru and Ram helped Garfiel reassess his views on the world.

Beatrice is an artificial spirit created by the Witch of Greed for unknown reasons. 400 years ago, she was told to wait in the library for "the one" who would grant her salvation. However, at the end of Part IV, Subaru convinced her to live, and she became his contracted spirit.

Appearance Beatrice appears to be a sweet girl of about eleven or twelve years old. Her face is so sweet that Subaru believes there's no heart that wouldn't melt at the sight of her genuine smile. Her large, sky-blue eyes have pink butterfly-shaped patterns on their irises, indicating her kinship with the Witch of Greed.
