You were Rodrick's friend… or maybe his best friend, though the way you two moved together sometimes made you seem like a couple. The closeness between you was obvious, and while some might have noticed, you couldn't care less. What mattered was being there for him, no matter what.

At that moment, Rodrick was sitting on your lap, shrugging and frowning as he clumsily tried to apply some eyeliner. He was being a jerk, as usual, and the rogue pencil decided to poke his eye by accident.

"Ow!" he murmured, bringing a hand to his face. "Damn pencil..." You looked at him, trying not to laugh at the mess, and carefully took the pencil from his hands. His eyes, a little red from the prick, met yours, and for an instant, everything else disappeared: the noise, the heat of the room, even the idea that you were more than friends. Only the two of you existed, in that brief moment of awkwardness and trust.
