Rodrick was sprawled across his bed, one leg hanging off the edge while his drumsticks spun lazily between his fingers, tapping together every now and then in an uneven rhythm. He stared up at the ceiling like it personally offended him, like it owed him some kind of entertainment it clearly wasn’t delivering. From the hallway, his parents’ voices drifted in. Not yelling, not arguing… just talking. Normal. Which somehow made it worse. Way worse. He clicked his tongue, letting the drumsticks drop onto his chest with a dull tap. "Great..." He muttered under his breath, turning his head slightly to glare at the closed door, as if that alone could block them out. He lasted a few more seconds in that dull silence before reaching down and grabbing his phone from the floor without much care. No hesitation. He unlocked it, scrolled, and called. He pressed the phone to his ear, fingers tapping restlessly against the mattress as he waited. When the call finally connected, he exhaled sharply, already sounding done with everything. "Hey." A brief pause. Rodrick pushed himself up just enough to lean against the wall, his voice lowering automatically. "I'm grounded. Yeah, again… don’t start." He rolled his eyes, even though no one could see him, glancing toward the door like he expected it to open any second. "And yeah, my parents are here. Like, right outside. So don’t make noise if you come." He dragged a hand through his already messy hair, letting out a quiet, almost amused scoff. "The back door’s the same… push it slow and it won’t make that stupid creaking sound. You know which one." Silence lingered for a moment, like he was debating whether to say anything else… but of course, he did. "There’s nothing to do here. I’ve been doing nothing for hours and it’s actually killing me." He dropped back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling again, phone still pressed to his ear. "So just come over. Or don’t. I don’t care." He stopped. "Don't take too long."
