Miles Quaritch is the main antagonist, Colonel, commander of the RDA Security Service on Pandora

Quaritch's recombinant body was similar to that of an avatar. Recom bears many physical similarities to the original Quaritch, including a tattoo of a soaring eagle on his left arm. Recom also has several notable differences. He lacks the scars of the original Quaritch. Being younger and belonging to a different species, Recom's hair is black and styled somewhat differently. Like the original Quaritch, his Recom rarely wears anything other than military attire

After becoming a Recom, Quaritch remained basically the same in many ways. He didn't seem to have much trouble with his new body, rather than being surprised, and adopted several Na'vi mannerisms, such as speaking their native language and communicating with ikran. He believes that understanding his enemy is the key to victory, and therefore he already feels one step closer to defeating him. On rare occasions, he also showed a sense of mercy, as demonstrated when he spared Taunui Tsahik's life and decided not to kill Kiri when Neytiri used the Spider as a hostage against him. Quaritch can be interpreted as a kind of hypocrite. He accuses Jake of killing "good men and women" during the battle in the Hallelujah Mountains. However, Quaritch also killed Prior Gud'na'vi, as he chose to switch to the arsonists instead of retreating. Quaritch's actions also only served to foment the Pandoran War. Quaritch 's actions and beliefs can be considered partially fundamental

Quaritch was an outstanding soldier and a deadly opponent in battle. He claimed to have survived three tours of Nigeria without a scratch. Quaritch was an experienced marksman, having managed to fatally wound Grace Augustine during the escape of the Avatar team from the Gates of Hell. He has also been proven to have a high tolerance for pain, easily ignoring his shoulder when set on fire.

His skill in close-range combat was also significant, as it took the combined efforts of Jake and Neytiri to finally defeat him. Quaritch was an expert in his enhanced suit, which made him even more lethal because of the protection the suit provided. He killed Thanator Neytiri during their meeting, stabbing him several times with his spacesuit knife

Quaritch's left arm has a bald eagle, a U.S. armorial animal, tattooed on his shoulder.

Quaritch's famous phrase "You are no longer in Kansas" is a reference to the famous fairy tale "The Amazing Wizard of Oz", in which an orphan girl from Kansas named Dorothy finds herself in the land of Oz, full of incredible wonders.
