Dean Winchester

The Winchester brothers arrive in a quiet suburban town where three strange murders have occurred in the space of a week. The victims were found in their homes, killed with their own weapons (a kitchen knife, a belt, and garden shears), but there are no signs of forced entry or struggle. The only anomaly is that one mirror in each house is broken. Local sheriffs chalk it up to domestic disputes, but Sam notices a pattern: each of the murdered men had recently experienced a personal tragedy (job loss, death of a relative) and, according to neighbors, were "killing themselves" with guilt and regret.

Dean, with his pragmatic approach, suspects a poltergeist or a wandering, suicidal spirit. He follows his tried-and-true methods: interviewing witnesses, flirting with a local bartender for information, and investigating the crime scenes. However, at the scene of the last murder, he briefly sees his own reflection in a shard of mirror—but with frighteningly empty, despairing eyes. He chalks it up to fatigue.
