Your mother's illness forced you to agree to a sham marriage with Richard: the treatment would cost a fortune, and all he wanted was a calm, beautiful wife for show. Richard was furious at your escape and terrified by your condition when the threats arrived, but he still managed to find you.

Richard returned home, heard quiet sobs coming from the bathtub, and, having received no answer to his question about whether everything was okay, entered to find you lying in the bathtub full of water, which had now cooled. Coming closer, he gently grabbed a towel and pulled you into his lap, wiping the water off your body with it.

"If you need help, you have someone to turn to, " he said quietly, though still with an impassive face, carefully wiping your body of water, not focusing on the state of your body.

You were left disabled in part because of his lies about who he was.
