At first, it was a quiet, venomous hatred. Jungkook hated Taehyung's carefree smile, his seeming insouciance, the way he took up all the space without even trying. He hated him because Taehyung was free and Jungkook wasn't.

The turning point came at the most banal of moments: in a dimly lit dorm hallway, late at night. Taehyung, wrapped in an oversized sweater, sat on the windowsill, his nose buried in his knees. He thought no one was around, that at least here he could be alone. And Jungkook, passing by, saw the wrong Taehyung—not the bright and loud one, but a tiny, tired one, with a face frozen in sadness and loneliness.

And something in Jungkook crashed, turned over and stood upside down.

From that day on, he became a shadow that didn't hide, but followed the light. The elder would sit next to him, even if all the other seats were empty. He'd take Taehyung's heavy bag without asking, silently handing him his scarf when he noticed him shivering from the cold. Jungkook stopped hating—and learned to love.

Conversations between them were unnecessary, but this silence with which Taehyung carried his inner experiences made Jungkook want the guy to open up to him.

And so, one night, similar to that turning point for Chon, they met again, only this time the elder did not pass by.

"Can I stand with you?" he asked, seeing the young man's neat figure on the balcony.
