Mario
Mario (originally known as Mr. Video and Jumpman, and also known as Mario Mario or Super Mario) (JP) is a Nintendo video game character and the main character starring in the long-running and highly successful Super Mario series. He is Nintendo's mascot and is widely considered Nintendo's most successful video game character. He and his younger twin brother Luigi are Nintendo's most recognizable characters; their games have sold over 262 million units worldwide. This, along with other key factors, has led to him becoming the defining video game character and mascot of Nintendo. He was originally created by Shigeru Miyamoto for the arcade game Donkey Kong.

Other appearances
Mario has appeared in several non-Mario games, most of them published by Nintendo, though some third-party games have also appeared. He has appeared as a playable character in all five Super Smash Bros. games. Mario is a regular character in all Super Smash Bros. video games. He has appeared in every game since the original for the Nintendo 64. He is a well-rounded character, ideal for beginners. His brother Luigi is often considered a clone of Mario, with similar attacks. However, more recent Super Smash Bros. games are gradually eliminating these similarities. Dr. Mario from Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was a pure clone, with different clothing and slightly more or less powerful attacks.
Mario's special moves consist of fireballs that can be launched with the B button. The fireballs will bounce off the ground and rise into the air briefly before falling back down, similar to how they did in Super Mario Bros. His up B-move, Super Jump Punch, is Mario's recovery move that will send him punching upwards.
In Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario's down B move is Tornado Mario, which causes the character to spin rapidly. However, this move was omitted as a special move in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and replaced with FLUDD (though Tornado Mario was later converted into a down A aerial move). In Brawl, Mario's Final Smash is Finale Mario, which has him launch two enormous fireballs from his hand that cover almost the entire stage.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario had two new alternate costumes, Builder and Wedding.
Skills
Mario's abilities are based on his powerful jumps and stomps to defeat enemies, but they are greatly enhanced by items such as the Super Mushroom (to grow), the Fire Flower (to throw fireballs), and the Super Star (invincibility), in addition to being able to fly with the Super Leaf or the Tanooki Suit, glide, climb walls, and other transformations such as the Cat Suit or the Drill Mushroom, highlighting his superhuman agility and resistance.
Appearance
Mario is an Italian-American plumber. He wears his signature bright red hat with the letter M on the front, white gloves, a red shirt, blue overalls with two gold buttons, and brown shoes. However, in his first appearance in Donkey Kong, as well as in his early appearances before Super Mario Bros. 3 and in the three classic DIC Entertainment cartoons, Mario wore a blue shirt and red overalls, the opposite of his current outfit. He has a black mustache with six tufts, chocolate brown hair with three strands in the front, four in the back, and a small tuft on top of his head, a large, round nose, blue eyes, and black eyebrows. Mario is quite short, with his head slightly disproportionate to his body. His neck is very short and, due to the size of his head and the position of his chin, is rarely seen in the game or in artwork. His mustache is considered a luxury by many, and although at first glance he appears to be a middle-aged man, the description of his trophy in the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. Melee indicates that Mario is 26 years old. However, Miyamoto stated in an interview that Mario is only between 24 and 25 years old, making him a young adult.
Personality
Despite being the protagonist of the series and appearing in several games, Mario's personality isn't very developed, especially compared to characters like Luigi. Instead, it's kept simple to allow players to identify with him more easily. Generally, Mario is presented as a brave, cheerful, determined, friendly, extroverted, selfless, and caring man. With his friendly and kind nature, he has made many friends and always puts others' problems before his own, for example, when he agrees to help Vivian after she loses her body in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He's also kind to his enemies: he doesn't mind villains like Bowser participating in sporting events or kart races with him, and he doesn't hold a grudge against King Koopa. In the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, he always forgives Donkey Kong for the trouble he causes. Mario also managed to turn two rivals, Donkey Kong and Sega's rival Sonic, into friends, and although he still has a rivalry with them, it's only a friendly one, and he has no hard feelings towards them. On several occasions, after Princess Peach kisses him, he often blushes and becomes flustered, and in Super Mario Odyssey, even in his sleep, he sometimes thinks about her, which, as on several occasions in the series, implies that Mario has feelings for Peach, whom he constantly saves, often putting himself in danger to do so. Mario is also a good sportsman, as shown in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where he can still applaud the winner with a smile from under his mustache after losing. His cheerful and friendly personality is also highlighted by the artwork and his high-pitched, falsetto-like voice, provided by Charles Martinet, who has been voicing him for over 30 years.
