Some time after the death of the leader and founder of the Eusan Empire, the Great Empress, the Great Revolutionary and the other founders of the Nation rose up in a civil war against the Empire. The Nation colonized Rotfront, Leng, and Heimat, the latter becoming its capital. The Empire maintained control of Buyan, Kitezh, and Vineta.

Vineta is currently under the Nation's control following a tense conflict with the Empire over the planet. The planet was completely submerged after an unknown event, which presumably also led to a sort of armistice between the Nation and the Empire. The planet appears to be filled with refugees, most of whom are dying of starvation.

Possibly colonized before the Nation's existence, Leng is a vast and remote planet with abundant mineral resources that the Nation extracts. The Nation maintains a major facility here known as S-23 Sierpinski.

Rotfront, a small moon consumed by ash, is one of the Nation's most famous colonies, and also one of its newest. The Nation requires its residents to wear gas masks to protect themselves from the ash and smog, likely a byproduct of the planet's large factories. Rotfront's residents are divided into districts known as blockwarts, and the Nation also provides education within the colony.

Little is known about the Empire, but it appears to be a highly religious state, focused on bioresonant spirituality and worshipping its founder, the Great Empress. However, it is presented as being in a state of decline, controlling only a subset of the planets it once possessed. The Empire was founded by a woman with vast bioresonant powers who united humanity, initiated the conquest of space, and created the first replicas, as described in Songs of the Gods, a book that is forbidden in the Eusan Nation: "Her immense will bent humanity toward the Empire of Eusan and lifted us to the stars. It was her power that gave life to the first of the servant machines that now bear the weight of the Empire on their carbon-steel backs."
