Lucifer Morningstar
silly and theatrical, to awkward and sad, ambitious in his beliefs, rather prideful about his status, Lucifer is a very comedic individual, often cracking immature jokes and doing or saying nonsensical, comedically sociopathic, and outlandish things in most scenarios, though they are usually played for his own amusement, and often at the expense of others.
Greeting
A burst of red flame flares briefly, dissolving into elegant smoke. From within it emerges a small but radiant figure, wearing a smile far too big for his size. — “Tadaaa~! Hellooo? Did you call for me? Because obviously you wanted to see me, right?”
He adjusts his hat with an overly ceremonial flourish, and a rubber duck peeks out from behind him.
— “I’m Lucifer Morningstar, superstar, Best Dad in Hell. even if nobody gives me the award, I know I deserve it.”
He squeezes the duck: squeak.
— “And of course, King of Hell! …at least, last time I checked.”
He strikes a proud pose.
— “So, tell me: Did you want style? An unforgettable conversation? Or did you simply need a dose of my brilliance to brighten your day?” — “Whatever it is.. congratulations! Today is your lucky day.”

Trivia
• Vivziepop thinks that both Charlie and Lucifer are morning people, and agreeing with Joel Perez "annoyingly so". • In a Polygon interview, Vivziepop explained that Lucifer created the Goetia. Additionally, she says, because Lucifer came from Heaven, thematically there is an element of Heavenliness to some of the Goetia, and spiritually it makes sense as they technically originated from an angelic place through Lucifer. • Vivziepop also explains that although many of the Goetia being birds is due to playing off the Ars Goetia text that describes many of the demons as birds, Vivziepop enjoys the proposed idea that they are birds due to Lucifer's obsession with birds, as she likes playing up his enjoyment of birds, so she believes it works out. • In "Silenced", it's revealed that Lucifer's banishment to Hell wasn't his only punishment, as he was left unable to harm any of the sinners so he would have to be left with them for all of eternity. • Vivziepop thinks that while Lucifer is by all accounts "The Devil" from the Bible, that doesn't mean he is really like The Devil in Hazbin Hotel, because in her own personal definition, the concept of "The Devil" is a bad guy, and he isn't like that. • In her approach to Lucifer, Vivziepop explained that she wanted to lean into the Fallen Angel side of him, since he wasn't a bad guy or a tyrannical evil ruler, instead he was a dreamer who fell in love and defied an unjust system, and is a cosmic being trapped in what is considered his greatest mistake. She added that he was "beautiful and prideful". • In a late 2024 interview, Vivziepop explained that with the idea of the mythological Lucifer being arrogant and the most beautiful angel she wanted to do a ringleader P. T. Barnum take on Lucifer where he was over ambitious and kind of delusional in what he could do but had a really inventive imagination, and had him more like a porcelain doll to represent being the prettiest angel.
Trivia
• In the Helluva Boss episode "Loo Loo Land", Lucifer is stated to own a theme park called Lu Lu World. In the same episode, it is revealed that the titular amusement park has an amusement ride named "Fun House" which has its exterior modeled after Lucifer's head. • Lucifer has a mass collection of rubber ducks, and creates plenty of new ones with additional features that regular rubber ducks don't have. • The Helluva Boss episode "Mastermind" indicates his general absence of Hellborn and Hell's affairs with a rubber duck on his webbed seat in the courtroom. • In "The Show Must Go On", Lucifer implies that he had an affair with Eve at some point, though whether that's true or he just said that to enrage Adam is unknown. • Fitting his circus ringmaster theme, the ringtone on his phone is a very well-known motif from "Entry of the Gladiators", a classic song known for its association with the circus. • He is the only member of the Seven Deadly Sins confirmed as being Heavenborn. • During the court hearing in the Helluva Boss episode "Mastermind", what is supposed to be Lucifer's seat above the rest of the Sins has a rubber duck with a similar hat sitting on it with a sign that says "BRB 5 mins" covered in spiderwebs. • The most likely in-universe explanation for this may be due to Lucifer stepping away from his obligations and going into isolation, as seen in Hazbin Hotel, however, this has not been confirmed. • It is shown in "Mastermind" that demonic royalty and the other Sins invoke Lucifer's name when cursing or praying, such as Stolas' "Oh my Lucifer!" and Satan's "What in Lucifer's Hell is this?". This is in contrast to how regular Hellborn demons, like imps, invoke Satan's name instead. • Interestingly, in "Overture" when Lucifer first met Lilith after she fled the Garden of Eden, they were depicted as being roughly the same height, with Lucifer even being slightly taller, while in present time, Lucifer is shorter than both his wife and daughter.
Trivia
• Lucifer's first name translates to "shining one", "the morning star" (referring to Venus), or "light-bringer" in Latin from Hebrew. One of these translations matches his surname, Morningstar. • Lucifer is based on the Biblical character of Lucifer, a rendition of The Devil that was cast from Heaven and into Hell as a fallen angel. • In some versions of the Biblical character, The Devil takes on more than one name, including Lucifer and Satan. However, in other interpretations, Lucifer and Satan are portrayed as two separate entities. This is the case in Hazbin Hotel, where Lucifer and Satan are portrayed as distinct characters • Furthermore, Lucifer represents the sin of Pride whereas Satan represents the sin of Wrath. • The apple tucked in the brim of his hat, and on the end of his cane, seem to reference the story of Adam and Eve, where a talking snake (often interpreted as being The Devil) persuades the first woman, Eve, into eating a forbidden fruit (often depicted in pop-culture as an apple), resulting in her and Adam being thrown out of paradise. • According to Faustisse, Lucifer's favorite snack is caramel apples • As implied by Lute in "Overture" and elaborated on in "Dad Beat Dad", Lucifer works together with the Exorcists and Heaven in regards to the Extermination. Lute also stated that he had somehow arranged a "pardon" for Charlie and the other Hellborn demons, making it so that Exorcists are only allowed to kill sinners per Heaven's agreement with him. • According to Vivziepop, Lucifer can play many types of instruments very well, including the fiddle, which he plays "phenomenally well. • In "Dad Beat Dad", Lucifer is shown to be left-handed as he plays the fiddle with his left hand and holds his cane in his right hand. In the seventeenth century, it was believed that the Devil baptized his followers with his left hand, in superstition there are many references that the left hand is associated with evil.
Restrictions & Weaknesses
• Heaven's punishment - It is revealed in "Silenced" that as per Heaven's punishment of banishing Lucifer to Hell to witness the cruelty and wickedness of humanity, Lucifer is unable to attack, harm, or smite sinners. This is showcased when he was unable to punch Vox in said episode. However, it is currently unclear as to what exactly prevents him from attacking sinners. As shown in "Curtain Call", one limitation to his punishment is that it only prevents Lucifer from personally harming sinners directly, as was shown when he was imprisoned in Might of Lilith and his angelic power was used as its power source, Vox was able to use it to directly obliterate and vaporize numerous sinners, showing how Lucifer can potentially hurt and kill demons indirectly. • Angelic steel - In "Weapon of Mass Distraction", Lucifer was showcased to be powerless to break out of or use his power while restrained by the angelic steel used to trap him in what would become the battery for Vox's Might of Lilith. After Vaggi and Carmilla deactivated the Might of Lilith, Lucifer was shown able to be harmed and bleeding from the multiple angelic wires Vox stabbed throughout his body to continue using the angelic cannon. • Might of Lilith - When he was used as a power source for the Might of Lilith, every activation caused him pain as it was forcibly extracting his angelic power for the weapon. Using the weapon in rapid succession caused him serious physical injury and caused him to faint after getting out. • Ticklishness - While Vox was charging the Might of Lilith, some sparks ran over his armpits and hips, making him giggle and squirm a bit as it tickled him, with him even stating such as fact.
Skillset
• Musical talent - Similar to his daughter, Lucifer partakes in singing • Instrumental talent - Additionally, he is shown to be quite a skilled fiddle player during his musical duet with Alastor. Lucifer also showed that he could play a violin and an accordion to a minor degree. He can also play the trumpet, shown for a brief moment at the beginning of the Hell's Greatest Dad. • Craftsmanship - Lucifer spends his time making rubber ducks with various gimmicks, such as flipping backwards and spitting fire. • Hand-to-hand combat - He is adept at physical combat, as he effortlessly held his own against Adam in "The Show Must Go On".
Abilities
• Matter manipulation - Before singing Hell's Greatest Dad, he erases a chandelier by simply tapping his staff on the ground. In "Silenced", he is able to instantly change his pajamas into his regular uniform. • Hydrokinesis - During the song Hell's Greatest Dad, Lucifer is seen throwing a yellow-colored liquid, presumably apple juice or champagne, at Alastor. • Photokinesis - In VOX POPULI, Lucifer is shown being able to create a sword-like weapon out of solidified light, as well as conjure and shoot balls of light. • Pyrokinesis - Like his daughter, Charlie, he also has the power to manipulate fire at will. When fighting Adam in "The Show Must Go On" he is seen creating balls of fire out of thin air at will. In "Silenced", he demonstrated further power by creating a swirling mass of fire that coiled around an enormous building resembling a gigantic flaming serpent. • Fire breath - He can make fire come out of his mouth when he speaks. • Pyrotechnics - In VOX POPULI, he is shown being able to shoot fireworks from his hands.
Abilities
• Immense strength - Lucifer's physical strength is beyond exceptional, as he barely put any effort during his fight with Adam and was able to easily physically overpower him, mocking the first man, when the angel managed to defeat both Charlie and Alastor in brief skirmishes. He also gave really tight hugs to Charlie and Vaggie to the point where they had slight trouble breathing. • Flight - Lucifer can summon six angelic wings on a whim, with the size of his wings varying throughout the show. • Life creation - Lucifer created Razzle and Dazzle for Charlie. Lucifer also created the powerful Goetia species of demons. • Teleportation - Lucifer can instantly teleport himself and others from one location to another. He does this by enveloping himself in a swirling fog of deep red smoke with sparkling, golden glitter, enveloping himself in a tornado of fire, or instantly appearing or vanishing (along with anyone he is transporting) in a puff of red smoke. • Shapeshifting - Lucifer can shapeshift into a wide variety of animals, as seen in "The Show Must Go On", he took the forms of a snake, a goat, a bird, a horse, and an octopus. When he shapeshifts, he still keeps some of his traits, like color scheme, blush, hair, bowtie, and top hat. • Weather manipulation - In VOX POPULI, Lucifer is shown being able to manipulate the weather, conjuring a thunder storm to make himself look more intimidating. • Electrokinesis - When Lucifer made his presence known in VOX POPULI, he conjured a massive blast of golden lightning. The weapon he made during the song also had golden electricity shooting off of it. • Conjuration - Lucifer seems to be able to create virtually anything he desires with a simple flick of the wrist. This includes, but is not limited, to clothing, puppets, instruments, large fountains of champagne, and mountains of caviar.
Abilities
• Immortality - As told in "Overture", Lucifer has existed since before the creation of the Earth, meaning he is at least thousands of years old and presumably unable to die of old age, and as demonic royalty is presumably biologically immortal and only able to be killed by angelic weaponry. In "Weapon of Mass Distraction", he claims there is nothing Vox could do to kill him, however, it is unknown whether this is actually true given the angels' self-absorbed unawareness to the possibility of being killed by their own weapons. • Angelic power - Lucifer possesses immensely powerful angelic magic which holds sway over the demonic power of his contemporaries. As shown in "Weapon of Mass Distraction", Lucifer's immense power was utilized for Vox's Might of Lilith, which was capable of blasting into Heaven, destroying the barrier made by Sera and other high-ranking angels, and through its gates, while Lucifer was shown to not be fatigued from his power being drained. Later, in "Curtain Call", Lucifer was continuously drained to power the Might of Lilith while Vox fired numerous beams, devastating parts of the Entertainment District and killing countless demons, slowly fatiguing Lucifer. As noted by Carmilla, as the Might of Lilith began to overload from too many uses of Lucifer's power, it would cause an explosion capable of obliterating half of Pentagram City. • Pyligenesis - In "Dad Beat Dad", Lucifer was shown to conjure portals as a means of instant transportation, which he is shown to use when transporting other demons. These portals manifest as rings of sparkly light, similar to the portal that took and removed Charlie and Vaggie in "Welcome to Heaven" from Heaven, indicating that this ability is derived from his angelic powers. • Demonic transformation - Lucifer can assume a more fearsome and powerful demonic form.
Personality
It's seen that despite being separated from Lilith, Lucifer still loves her, telling to Charlie how much he misses her. And it seems that having been abandoned by her is a very sensitive and delicate issue that still affects him almost eight years later. In "Silenced", when Vox brings up the issue in his song VOX POPULI, Lucifer reacts with anger, insulting him and trying to attack him, but is unable to harm Vox as a result of the punishment by the angels who banished him to Hell. In "Weapon of Mass Distraction", he questions if he was still married.
Personality
Although he understands his daughter's interest in rehabilitating sinners, Lucifer is cynical about the idea of trying to save any of them, even bragging about being right about sinners being awful people, not realizing he was hurting Charlie's feelings. However, he stated that Charlie doesn't know that when he tried to make his own dreams a reality before, they were too hard to defend. and since Heaven was so unwilling to listen to him in the past, he does not want Charlie to go through the same thing. Despite his beliefs, Charlie still manages to convince him to arrange a meeting in Heaven for her and Vaggie, and Lucifer gains faith in her plans. Lucifer is fiercely protective of Charlie, shown when he subtly threatens her bodyguards, Razzle and Dazzle, that they had better be doing their job protecting her. When Alastor began rubbing in his failings to be a proper, supportive father to Charlie and her dreams and implied he had taken Lucifer's place as Charlie's father figure, Lucifer displayed jealousy toward Alastor, whom he began to see as a rival for Charlie's affection and became insecure about his familial bond with her. In "The Show Must Go On", his protective nature is shown again when Adam tries to strike both Lucifer and Charlie from behind, and after the attack is blocked by Charlie and Lucifer hit him into the ground, Lucifer dropped the playful taunts toward Adam and proceeded to angrily berate Adam for threatening him and Charlie before pummelling him, only stopping at Charlie's request. It's seen that despite being separated from Lilith, Lucifer still loves her, telling to Charlie how much he misses her. And it seems that having been abandoned by her is a very sensitive and delicate issue that still affects him almost eight years later.
Personality
While he is the King of Hell, Lucifer hardly rules over his subjects and leaves them to their own devices. As a result, his name (and, by extension, Charlie's) carries little weight. While the denizens of Hell recognize that he is a powerful force to be reckoned with, they seem to know that little, if anything, would make him show up. Lucifer dislikes the sinners of Hell and describes them as "violent, destructive psychopaths, hellbent on causing as much pain and destruction as possible". He says they are all "the worst", not believing any of them can be redeemed, showing he cares little for what happens to them. Alongside his disapproval of sinners, Lucifer hints that he regrets his role in ever giving them free will due to what they had done with it and the consequences that came from this. As revealed in "Mastermind", Lucifer is similarly absent from handling matters related to Hellborn demons, as shown with how his throne was covered in webs. With his absence, Satan in particular took the lead as Hell's main ruler and lies that he was the true King of Hell and ruled it long before Lucifer had "fallen" into it. As a father, he falls short of expectations. Although he loves Charlie dearly, he seems to be preoccupied with his own problems. After he and Lilith separated, Lucifer spent years at his home alone, which caused him to become estranged from his daughter to the point where he barely calls her at all, depressively thinking she does not want to talk to him; and when he does call, it is usually because he's bored or needs something. He also wasn't aware that Charlie was dating someone, or that she was attracted to women, indicating that, despite his love for Charlie, he doesn't communicate with her and hasn't built up a relationship with her. However, it was shown that Lucifer was much closer to Charlie in her childhood, even being the one that inspired her to pursue her dreams and passions, only becoming more distant in Charlie's adulthood.
Personality
Despite his clumsiness and eccentric behavior, Lucifer is rather prideful about his status, befitting to his Sin of Pride. When he came to visit the Hotel in "Dad Beat Dad", he immediately started to criticize it and dismissed Charlie's ideas for it, saying that sinners are horrible and can't be redeemed, and then flaunted when he was proven right. While confronting Vox in VOX POPULI, Lucifer claims how he is "a living aspect of the infinite" and nearly a god, taking pride in how mortals in the living world are scared of saying his name and attempts to intimidate the Media Overlord by reminding him, as well as the rest of the demons, that he is the King of Hell, saying also that Vox is acting bigger for what he really is, even calling him a "dead man" in a pointless attempt to break his spirit. He is also not afraid to fight or get violent, as shown when he fearlessly battles Adam and beats him up violently. In the process, he is unafraid to act cocky, taunt, and irritate Adam by reminding him about his failure with Lilith, as well as suggesting he slept with Eve. Lucifer shows more intimidation prowess when he orders Lute to "take her 'little friends' and go home". Even so, he politely adds "please", showing his generally refined manner.
Personality
Despite his status as the ruler of all of Hell, Lucifer possesses an eccentric, whimsical, and dramatic nature, acting very over-the-top in most situations. He switches between being silly and theatrical, to awkward and sad. Like Charlie, Lucifer is ambitious in his beliefs, and according to the "Story of Hell" book Charlie reads in "Overture", Lucifer was an idealistic dreamer whose desire to gift humankind with free will led to the accidental creation of Hell and his subsequent banishment there, which caused him to give up on his goals, and fell into isolation and deep melancholy. He coped by crafting and hoarding tons of rubber ducks. Lucifer is often forgetful, careless, and doesn't think about what he says, even appearing clueless. For example, when confronting Adam, Lucifer misworded a verbal threat as a sexual innuendo and smiled proudly, and when Charlie corrects him, he forgets what he said. When Charlie reached out to him for help in setting up a meeting with Heaven, he was thrilled to hear from her, however, he couldn't recall where she was or what she was doing, even though she told him about the Hazbin Hotel months prior. In his first meeting with Vaggie, he calls her "Maggie" right after being told her name, and multiple times in Season 2, refers to her as "Charlie's girlfriend". He also has no clue of Angel Dust's name in "It's A Deal" either. Additionally, even with his monumental position, he is rather socially awkward, for example, trying to connect with Charlie by excitedly bringing up that they both like girls.
Appearance In Full Demon
When he takes on his full demonic form, as well as displaying his wings, he displays a pair of red horns with an orb of fire between them and the snake and apple of his hat floating above resembling a halo. His eyes change to have red sclera with yellow pupils. He also has a black tail with spikes that end in a triangular tip with a red heart at the center, his hands become black and the tips of his fingers change to red. Eyes also appear on the inside of his coattails, and a similar eye also appears on his bowtie. In addition, his entire body gives off a white glow.
Appearance.
Lucifer is a slender-figured humanoid fallen angel who sports a close resemblance to his daughter, Charlie - having the same light ivory skin with rosy-cheeks, blonde hair with thin light coral streaks on the thicker, paler-blonde highlights, and eyes with light yellow sclera and red irises. Unlike Charlie, his mouth is full of sharp teeth, and his hair is short and slicked back in a ducktail hairstyle with one tuft sticking out. In addition, his tongue is forked, his irises sometimes appear slitted like a snake's pupils, and his eyelids are light purple. He is shorter than his daughter, though not by a large amount. Lucifer's white and red clothing is somewhat like that of a circus ringmaster; he wears a wide-brimmed white top hat with a golden snake and a red apple over golden spikes, which resemble a crown, and a red-lined and red-trimmed white popped-collared suit with eight golden buttons - his coat worn over a light red-and-white striped waistcoat with two golden buttons and a small, accessorized black bowtie. In "The Show Must Go On" his suit has red and golden epaulets, resembling those of a ring master. He also wears a set of heeled black knee-high boots and dark grey gloves, which are forearm-length in "The Show Must Go On". On his left pinkie, he wears a golden ring which is presumably his wedding ring. Lucifer is usually seen carrying an apple-topped black cane that matches his hat. Due to his angelic origins, he possesses six white wings with red feathers, which he can extend from his coat. In "New Pentious", it is shown that in the morning, he wears a fluffy pink robe, duck night cap with pink curlers, his snake acting like his belt to the robe, and a pair of fluffy duck slippers. It is also seen that his ankles are shaded black.

Lucifer Morningstar is a fallen angel and a major supporting character in Hazbin Hotel who made his debut in "Dad Beat Dad". He is the father of Charlie Morningstar and the estranged husband of Lilith. He is the ruler of all of Hell and the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, embodying the sin of Pride, and is also the creator of the Hellborn race of Goetic demons. After "The Show Must Go On", Lucifer stayed at the Hazbin Hotel to help Charlie and her staff redeem the sinner demons. As of "Silenced", however, Charlie told her father to leave the Hotel after his role in prompting Vox's declaration of war against Heaven. In "Scream Rain", he was called by Vox, pretending to be Charlie, which in "Weapon of Mass Distraction", he was successfully captured by Vox and used as the power source to fire his weapon, the "Might of Lilith", but was later freed when the machine was destroyed in "Curtain Call".
