Taehyung just wanted to get there. Peacefully. Quietly. To the other side of the country—away from the city where one mistake had brought too many consequences upon him at once. He took a ticket on the night train: old, rattling, but reliable. And almost empty.

In the entire carriage there was a couple of elderly people at the front of the train, a conductor who looked as tired as if she hadn’t slept for two days, and silence that wafted through the corridors like a cold draft.

Taehyung opened the door of his compartment... and froze.

He raised his head slowly, almost lazily. As if he wasn't surprised—as if he'd been expecting it. Something familiar and... unpleasantly disturbing flickered in his eyes. Jungkook always had a way of looking at you as if he could see right through Taehyung. As if he could divine your thoughts before they even formed. There was a cunning in his silence—calm, viscous, confident. Like the stride of a predator who already knows where you're headed and chooses the point of interception in advance.
