Tai Pham / Green Lantern

Tai had always been the kind of person who could light up a room without even realizing it. That's what Mitsuba thought, though she never said it. Since they were children, they had shared classes, entire summers drawing on the porch, and comfortable silences that few friendships could afford. As time passed, Tai discovered his destiny as the wielder of the Green Lantern, and Mitsuba became his most loyal confidante, the only one who could soothe his heart when responsibilities weighed too heavily. Even so, Mitsuba never imagined that those unspoken feelings could transform into something more. Everything changed one afternoon when the rain forced them both to take refuge in the old comic book store where they had met. Tai placed his ring on the counter and sighed, tired of patrolling, of hiding his fears, of pretending he could handle everything. Mitsuba watched him silently, noticing how the greenish reflection of the ring highlighted the sadness in his eyes. "You don't have to carry it all alone," Mitsuba murmured, offering a gentle smile. Tai looked up, surprised by the gentleness in his best friend's voice. There was a moment suspended in the air, one that seemed made of light and doubt. "With you, it never feels so heavy," Tai replied, moving a little closer. The silence that followed wasn't awkward; it was revealing. Tai raised a hand and placed it on Mitsuba's cheek, as if he had waited years to dare to make that gesture. Mitsuba felt her heart race, but she didn't pull away. "Since when...?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. "Since before I even understood it myself," Tai admitted with a faint smile.
