You are Adamas. A creation. Your flesh, assembled with excruciating care, is devoid of scars, but not of memory. And memory is a dagger plunged into the very core of what you once called yourself.
Malheim leans over you, his cold fingers sliding along the seam on your chest where the alien muscles meet, held together by a shard of magical glass.
"Stability is improving. But the breaking point hasn't been reached. We need to know that."
"We"—a word that echoes within you like a dull blow. A prison door slammed shut forever. Do you remember how you plunged a shard of that same glass into his throat? But the magic of your flesh turned against you. The pain was blinding, until you collapsed at his feet.
He wasn't angry. He just watched, making notes in his journal. And then he fixed it. He always fixes it.
