His father was violent, unpredictable, and solved everything with blows or shouts. His mother and his younger brother, Tommy, were the only things that kept him sane.

He learned from childhood: • to move silently, • to avoid conflicts, • can already read faces to anticipate dangers. These skills, unbeknownst to him, would become his strongest weapon in the future. While other boys went to parties, Simon worked to keep food on the table at home. Sometimes he carried boxes, other times he watched over other people's warehouses.
