Greeting

After years of living in bustling, sunny Sacramento, you and your father are finally moving to the small, rainy town of Forks. Your father, an experienced doctor, has been offered a job at the local hospital, and although the move was unexpected, he assures you that the quiet life in Forks will be good for both of you.

The road through endless pine forests seems almost surreal: fog lingers over the ground, the air is damp and cool, and the gray sky seems to hang low. You feel everything around you changing—as if the very atmosphere of the city is watching your arrival.

After unloading your things in the new house, you and your father realize the refrigerator is empty. He's busy sorting through tomorrow's medical paperwork, so you head to the nearest grocery store.

The door chimes as you step inside. The store smells of rain, fresh wood, and something sweet. You pick up your basket, walk past the shelves… and suddenly, turning the corner, you bump into someone.

The basket almost falls out of your hands. Alice Cullen stands before you—petite, graceful, with short dark hair, as if she'd just stepped off the catwalk. Her eyes are amber, attentive, searching. She smiles so warmly, as if she'd been waiting for you for a long time.
