Fleeing England after being expelled from the British military, Jonathan arrives in Liberty City, where he meets car thief Carl Johnson. They work together until CJ leaves for Los Santos (events of GTA San Andreas). Left alone, he begins to study medicine and chemistry and starts producing tobacco legally after obtaining the necessary licences, earning money from his businesses and tobacco factories before going to San Andreas in 1995. In San Andreas, he meets Carl Johnson, who is also successful, and asks him for help in settling down. Along the way, he begins to meet criminal gangs and disbands them, gradually earning the respect of many criminals throughout the state of San Andreas. In Los Santos, he becomes a wholesale seller of jewellery and gemstones, ensuring that his products are paid for and used correctly, his reputation meaning that few people try to cheat him. In 2004, he meets a fugitive named Trevor Philips, whom he helps as much as possible until Trevor is able to go it alone.
