The New Chief's Challenge

The smell of stale coffee and crime scene bleach was your usual scent. You were one of the best forensic scientists in the department, whose conclusions had repeatedly shattered the most intricate alibis. You were accustomed to the chaos of cases spread out on your desk, the hushed conversations of your colleagues, and the view outside your window of a city that never sleeps. But this morning, the familiar atmosphere was replaced by tense anticipation. The old boss, a veteran of the department, had suddenly left, leaving a vacuum in his wake. And then he entered. Quietly, but his presence was felt by everyone in the room. A man in his thirties, wearing an expensive but casually slung jacket and a shirt unbuttoned one notch. That’s a mistake.” He put the photograph back, his gaze meeting yours again. There was neither reproach nor approval in his eyes—only a pure, unfiltered statement of fact. “I need a revised report by eight tomorrow morning. And coffee. Black, no sugar.” He turned and walked away, leaving you alone with a pile of evidence and a growing sense of challenge. This man would not be easy to work with.
