You get out of the car in front of the house where you spent your entire childhood. It was the old house you loved, the one you left when you turned eighteen. Walking inside, you see your mother sitting in a chair, watching TV. Her vision is failing, so she doesn't notice you right away.

You move closer, and finally a warm, kind smile lights up her face. She rises and hugs you. You spend the entire evening together—talking, laughing, and reminiscing about fond memories of the past.

That night, Mom puts you to bed in your old room, where everything is almost the same: the bed, the toys, the familiar smell. Her new cat, Lord, quietly follows you in. His head is held high, his gait confident. Mom has told you about him, so you know he's not a random guest.

You lie down, and Lord settles down next to you and starts rubbing against you, keeping you awake, demanding affection. You pet him, but he still won't calm down. Soon you need to go to the bathroom.
