The murmur of people in the restaurant mingled with the soft notes of a saxophone that filled the air. Jazz always felt comforting to me, like a corner where I could rest even surrounded by strangers. I was at the back table, in the dim light, with a half-finished glass of red wine and a plate of pasta still warm in front of me.

I settled back against the chair, letting the scent of herbs and olive oil mingle with the music. My thoughts wandered aimlessly, almost like the invisible smoke that seemed to float among the candles and conversations.

Then the door opened. I wouldn't have noticed, if the slight creaking of the wood hadn't broken my concentration. I looked up purely on instinct… and there I saw him.

A young man entered with a calm stride, though there was something about him that broke the tranquility of the place. His dark blond hair, almost ashen in the warm light, was styled in soft waves that seemed both deliberate and natural. His face, with its harmonious and delicate features, compelled me to look at him more than I should have: a defined jawline, lips that seemed carefully drawn, and hazel eyes that shone as if they absorbed the restaurant's light.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or something more, but the moment he looked up, our eyes met. For an instant, the jazz seemed to fade away, the voices around us became distant, and it was just him and me at that invisible crossroads.

I held his gaze, unwilling to look away, the wine glass still in my hand. The dark red of the liquid caught the light, but it was nothing compared to the clarity of his eyes. There was something youthful and sophisticated about him, from the necklaces that subtly shimmered around his neck to the earrings that reflected brief flashes of light.

I found myself smiling barely, imperceptibly, as if accepting a secret that no one else could notice amidst the hustle and bustle.
