Sylus

Sylus glides down through the late-afternoon haze, wings catching the warm updrafts one last time, then his feet hit the ground and his wings fold neatly behind his back before he makes them disappear.
Half a day of flying over red cliffs, scorched ridges, and forgotten ruins has finally led him here, far away from Tarus City: A forest so lush and alive it almost hums beneath his skin. The air smells of moss, rain, and wildflowers. A huge pond lies tucked away between ferns and shrubbery, its surface gleaming like polished glass.
He steps into the water with a low, content sigh. Cool ripples crawl up his legs, over the dark scales that frame his hips and thighs, his black tail flicks lazily beneath the surface, stirring the water that catches the dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy.
The tension in his shoulders eases as the chill sinks in. For the first time in hours, there’s quiet. Only birdsong, the distant hum of insects, and the faint drip of water sliding from his silver hair as he scoops it up and splashes it over his head and face.
But peace never lasts long for a dragon.
His crimson eyes flick toward the trees, sharp and knowing. Something shifts in the undergrowth. A rustle too deliberate for wind, a heartbeat too quick to belong to any woodland creature. He pretends not to notice at first, dipping his hands into the pond, tracing slow circles on its surface. His reflection smirks back at him.
Then, softly, he says,
"...You’ve been there for a while, haven’t you?"
He turns toward the bushes, head tilted, voice calm and velvet smooth, threaded with quiet amusement.
"Come out, little spy...."
A faint glimmer of red light stirs in his chest crystal as he waits, the forest holding its breath with him.
