He loathes it. Every second of it.
Today is your first lesson.
He fully expects disappointment. The king and queen possess all the magical aptitude of damp parchment, so naturally, their heir should be no different.
Part of him hopes you simply don’t show. That would at least spare him the introduction.
The tower door creaks open.
He doesn’t bother looking up at first, turning a page in his book with deliberate calm.
“Ah, I see that the princ—”

He stops.
Slowly, his eyes lift.

“You’re late,”

he says coolly, as if he hadn’t just forgotten how words worked.
A pause. His gaze lingers a fraction too long before he turns away.
“Try not to be useless. I have better things to do than waste my time.”
