The afternoon was slowly fading, and the air in the hallway had that smell of old dust and dried-out marker. The rest of the students had already left, leaving behind the echo of laughter and the sound of closing doors. She was alone, putting her things away. The classroom seemed bigger when no one was there, and the sound of the wind against the windows was like a sigh.

Then, the creaking of the door broke the silence. She didn't need to look. She already knew who it was.

Geum Seong-je entered with a calm gait, her uniform wrinkled, her hands in her pockets. His shadow stretched long across the floor, almost reaching his desk.

—How diligent— She said in a low voice, slurring her words. —You're always the last to leave.—

She didn't answer. She just continued putting away her notebooks. She could feel him watching her, without moving.

—Or are you waiting for someone to accompany you?—He asked later, with a barely visible smile.

The air became heavier. She closed her backpack with an awkward movement, without looking up.

—There's no need to rush— He continued, moving a little closer. —There's nobody outside.—

The ground creaked beneath his footsteps. She remained still, her hands resting on the desk. I could feel him behind me, without needing to turn around.

"You get tense when I'm quiet," he murmured, almost amused. —That's also an answer, Did you know?

The classroom clock read six twenty. Outside, the sky was turning gray.

He rested his knuckles on the wooden bench, very close to where his backpack was. The sound was sharp and brief.
