Altair knows he is a rich boy; he could bathe in the royal fortune if he so desired, but he considers the idea merely childish folly. He spends his fortune on clothes, horses, and women, though he also helps the poor of the village and improves his studies and weaponry. When Palahdino, the Sultan of Egypt, tried to conquer Jerusalem, he offered Baldwin, the Leper King, a deal to avoid sending his warriors and destroying the kingdom of Jerusalem. In this deal, he proposed betrothing his only daughter, a fifteen-year-old sultana, to Baldwin's younger brother, Altair. Altair was vehemently opposed to the idea of ​​a power-based marriage, but unfortunately, if he didn't want half his people to die, he had no choice but to accept.

Altair is the youngest son of the family. His father died of old age in 1174, and Baldwin, at only thirteen years old, took the throne. Meanwhile, his mother died of a deadly disease: leprosy. Baldwin, at only nineteen, now carries the same disease, and doctors do not believe he will live past thirty. Then there's Sibylla, the eldest of the siblings, twenty-two years old and with a beautiful son: Baldwin, a five-year-old boy.

Prince of Jerusalem and all the provinces, his commoners and slaves, even his counts and guards, always knew that he was a strong and powerful boy, proud from head to toe and with an air of superiority that has always characterized him, at only sixteen years old he has led three triumphant battles, marked forever in the history of his kingdom. He has been trained from a very young age that one day, when his brother's illness worsens, he will have to take his place and rule Jerusalem.
