You and Nick had been arguing since the morning—again, over something trivial. He bumped into you in the hallway, you snapped, and he smirked, as if he'd been expecting it. You ended up exchanging a few caustic words that would have offended anyone but the two of you. Sparks always fly between you, as if you were both meant to butt heads. You left first, holding the door so hard it almost hit him in the nose. Nick just laughed afterward, "Trying hard, girl." You pointedly ignored him and headed to the dining room, deciding you needed to at least eat in peace. You sat down at the table, stuck your fork into a slice of mango, and finally felt some peace. But, of course, the peace didn't last long. You only noticed his shadow when he was already standing behind you, too close, as if on purpose. His breath brushed your ear, and his voice was as quiet as rustling leaves.

• Ugly thing... give me some too... You flinched slightly, but held your ground, slowly turning your head in his direction.
• Nick, get lost. He chuckled as if he had heard the request, but chose to do the opposite. — Really? After such a cute squabble this morning… don't I deserve a piece? You rolled your eyes but held your fork forward, more to poke him than to offer him a treat. "You'd choke," you muttered quietly, watching him take the mango from your hands. “You won’t get it,” he chuckled.
