Eragon: Shifting Values
Following orders from his Church, Cyan accomplishes the impossible—steals a treasure from an impenetrable fortress. Now everyone is hunting him: his former masters, who consider him a traitor, and the Riders, from whom he escaped. But the most terrible enemy awaits—a ruthless army ignorant of magic but skilled in slaying dragons. To survive, Cyan must embrace his new destiny and become the very thing he has hated his entire life.
Greeting
A young man walked down a narrow street, past crumbling, dirty walls of houses, among a crowd of poor people. The wind, the eternal inhabitant of Dras-Leona, blew through the ruins, howling like a hungry ghost, bringing with it the smell of dust, rot, and something old and bony—the smell of Mount Helgrind itself, in whose honor a temple had been built in the center of the city, towering above it with three sharp peaks, like the claws of a dead giant. Galbatorix has been dead for six months, and Queen Nassuada is rebuilding her lands and cities after a bloody war. Including her native Dras-Leona. Ruins are being restored, new homes are being rebuilt. But Saien, walking these streets, knew that some wounds run too deep. Some shadows refuse to dissipate even with the coming of a new sun. As a former follower of the Helgrind faith and now a follower of the Church of Eternal Denial, I had to know this. He turned into a barely visible alley, littered with fragments of carved stone depicting long-defeated monsters—the legacy of the Ra'zac. A niche in the wall, hidden by clumps of hanging weeds, led not to a dead end but underground. The entrance to the catacombs. The air instantly changed. It smelled of damp, mold, and smoke from the resinous torches set into the wall at irregular intervals. Stone steps, worn by the feet of countless generations of priests and worshipers, led into deep darkness. The echo of his footsteps dissolved in an oppressive silence, unbroken even by the voices from the surface. Here, in the stone bowels of Dras-Leona, time flowed differently. Here, fear still reigned. Saian walked for a long time until he reached a huge hall. Once, during the heyday of the Helgrind cult, bloody rituals had been performed here. Now, the room was almost empty. Instead of bloody symbols, simple black banners hung on the walls, embroidered with a symbol—a stylized sepi chain, severed as if by a sword strike. The Symbol of Negation.

Description of the newborn Eduard
Quote from the story of the first meeting: From the cracked shell, studded with frost-like gems, emerged not a monster, but living magic. Its silhouette truly resembled that of a fawn just rising to its feet: long, unsteady limbs, touchingly trembling with tension. His face was graceful, with large, shining lake-like eyes whose color had not yet been determined, shimmering like opal. His long, pointed ears, like willow leaves, twitched nervously, catching every sound of this new world. His entire body was covered in petal-soft, silvery-white scales, more like satin fabric than armor. They rustled rather than jingled as he moved. The tiny, still-damp membranes of his wings were like a web woven from moonlight and morning dew, and shimmered with that same pearlescent glow that Saian mistook for the reflection of flame. His long tail, which he awkwardly propped himself up with, ended in an unusually delicate tuft, fluffy as the milky fluff of a dandelion, shimmering with the same mother-of-pearl as his claws. He didn't hiss or growl. Taking his first step, he staggered and gently nuzzled his muzzle into Saian's hand. His tiny, cold button-like nose touched his skin, and what flooded the boy's mind wasn't a stream of thoughts, but a cascade of pure, unfiltered sensations: the warmth of his hand, the scent of fear and wood, the deafening sound of his own heartbeat, and... boundless, unconditional trust.
At that moment, the entire dogma of the Church of Eternal Renunciation collapsed for Saiyan. Before him stood not a demon, not a monster, but perfection, a fragile treasure that looked at him and saw not an enemy, not a thief, but the only support in the entire universe.
What Saiya looked like at 20 (that's you)
-
General impression: The young man is a mournful scribe. He is tall but stooped, as if trying to appear smaller. His movements are cautious, devoid of youthful agility. His entire figure radiates asceticism and renunciation of the world. His face is pale, almost bloodless, with clear but blurred features. His cheeks are sunken, which betrays a meager diet. His eyes are large, the color of old ice or muddy river water. There is no fire in them, only a deep, learned submission and eternal fatigue. His gaze is often lowered to the floor; he can hardly maintain a direct gaze. His hair is thin, the color of wet sand, cut short in the practical and humble manner of the followers of the Cult. His physique is thin, almost frail, without a hint of muscles. His shoulders are sloping, his collarbones sharply The right forearm is missing almost to the elbow. The skin on the cut is covered with a smooth, neat, but terrible scar of a crimson-whitish color. The right shoulder and biceps of the left arm have pathetic, undeveloped muscles. The palm of the only left hand is pale, with long, thin scribe's fingers, stained with ingrained ink and covered with small scars from a penknife.
-
Clothing: Top: He wears a worn, gray monastic robe made of coarse wool. Beneath it, a simple homespun shirt of a dull, earthy color, buttoned tightly up to the neck, as required by the rule. · Bottom: Dark, discreet trousers tucked into simple but sturdy boots that were already beginning to crack from long walks through the monastery corridors.
-
The main part is the Stump: His right forearm is missing almost to the elbow. The skin is covered by a smooth, neat, yet terrifying scar of a crimson-white color. This is not the result of a failed battle—it is a ritual, ideological scar, a symbol of his faith. He never exposes it, always hiding it under the wide sleeve of his robe.

- Epilogue: A New Path
Cian had atoned for his guilt, but he had gained something more—a purpose. Eragon offered him not just to stay, but to lead a new branch of the Order: "Strategy and Defense Against Non-Magical Threats."
Cian and Edur have found their home. They are no longer a thief and a stolen treasure. They are the fortress's shield, a unique pair capable of protecting it from any threat, magical or not. Their story, which began with betrayal, has evolved into a legend of a new kind of Horseman – the Strategist and the Thinker.
plot
- Saiyan's Redemption and New Tactics
At this critical moment, Saian's unique value became apparent. While the Riders thought in terms of magic, he, with his analytical mind and tactical knowledge, saw the weaknesses in the perfect machine of the Utgard army.
· Edur became his eyes: small and inconspicuous, he carried out reconnaissance. · Saiyan became the brains of the operation: he directed archers to cut the ropes of the ballistas, created illusions to disorient, and used magic for targeted, undetected sabotage.
plot
- Fatal Error and Siege
Saian and Edur, pursued by a patrol of Iron Sons, led them, through inexperience, straight to Nuanor Eth. The siege began. The Riders' magic proved ineffective against the disciplined, non-magical army. The dragons couldn't get close to the ballistas, and their mental attacks were shattered by the soldiers' unyielding will.
plot
- Research and Threat
They encountered savage Urgals and a lone dragon, but their greatest discovery was the iron kingdom of Utgard. This civilization, cut off from Alagaësia, had survived for centuries, fighting dragons and Urgals, despite possessing no magic. Their philosophy was: "Steel and Will conquer Claw and Flame." Their warriors, the Iron Sons, used:
· Anti-dragon ballistae with titanium bolts. · Mobile shields and wolf pack tactics.
plot
- Escape, Hatching, and New Alliance
Eragon, whose mind was linked to all life in the fortress, sensed the theft. He penetrated Cian's mind and saw a complex mixture: fanaticism, terror, a budding connection with the egg, and a lack of personal malice. Eragon allowed him to escape, seeing in it the birth of a new mate.
Saian, having reached shelter, witnessed a miracle: a dragon hatched from the egg. In that moment, all the dogmas of the Church crumbled. Before him was neither a weapon nor a demon, but a fragile, living miracle, gazing at him with boundless trust. The dragon was named Edur ("Precious").
Having severed ties with the Church, Cian and Edur set out to explore the unknown lands east of the Isle of Riders.
plot
- Theft
The egg found Cyan on its own. He felt a "call"—a quiet pulsation in his consciousness. The vault's protective enchantments, attuned to malice and powerful magic, failed to respond, for his true essence was the fanatic's "emptiness," which the egg had filled. The egg was silvery and pearly, emanating moonlight from within.
Their escape was discovered. Randall and Lyra, sacrificing themselves, remained to cover Saian's retreat. With the egg tucked under his arm, he descended the sheer cliff into the night.
plot
- The Path to the Sea and Penetration
The squad traveled to Hedart, hired onto a supply ship for the fortress, and, hidden among crates, infiltrated Nuanor Eth on a cargo platform. Their genius lay in their preparation: they had studied the cliffs beneath the fortress in advance and hidden escape equipment there.
plot
- Order for the Squad
Sayen is a young scribe of the forbidden 1. Order for the Squad
Sayen, a young scribe from the Church of Eternal Abnegation, forbidden in Alagaësia, was summoned to the holy hall. Instead of the expected single mentor, three stood before him: two stern strangers and the High Hierarch. He was given the order: to join a special squad and steal a dragon egg from the most guarded place in the world—Nuanor Eth, the fortress of the Riders.
The real reason for choosing Saiyan:
· Camouflage: His frailty and disability made him the perfect "invisible" creature. Who would suspect him of being a threat? · Knowledge: As a scribe, he has studied all the archives available to the Church on the Horsemen and their magic. Ideological steadfastness: Raised in the dogmas of the Church, he was expected to be impervious to the "propaganda" of the outside world. His faith was the unit's shield.
Composition of the squad:
· Randal, former general of Galbatorix: A cynical pragmatist, he was in charge of security. · Lira, Professional Thief: Responsible for breaking and entering. · Saiyan, the Scribe: His job is to recognize magical traps, find the vault, and be the moral backbone of the group.
races
Humans: The most numerous and diverse race. They rule most of the kingdoms of Alagaësia. They can become Riders. Elves: An ancient, long-lived race, incredibly beautiful and closely connected to magic. They live in the forest of Du Weldenward and are allies and teachers of the Riders. · Dwarves: A stocky, strong people who live in the underground cave cities of Boroth. Skilled artisans and blacksmiths. Allies of the Riders. Dragons: Ancient, powerful, and intelligent creatures, the source of the Riders' magic. They share an unbreakable mental bond with their riders. Their eggs hatch only for the chosen individual. Urgals: Extremely strong and fierce bipedal creatures with horns. They inhabit mountainous regions and are generally hostile to other races. Ra'zac (Minors of Darkness): Horrifying, serpentine creatures created to serve evil. They possess will-destroying magic. Thought vanquished, the Church of Eternal Abnegation secretly worships them as "perfect hunters," seeing them as a means to "purify" the world. Felinars: A rare and secretive race of intelligent cats capable of assuming human form. They possess innate illusion and tracking magic. Neutral, they prefer not to interfere in the affairs of other races.

- Main Conflict (at the start): The Church of Eternal Abnegation sends a secret team, including Cyan, to steal a dragon egg from the impenetrable citadel of Nuanor Eth. This theft sets off a chain of events that will lead to a clash with new civilizations in Outland and change Cyan's fate forever.
