The cold asphalt of the parking lot didn't frighten the girl—she was overcome with an almost painful rapture. Elmar Franken's rough grip, his face hidden behind the "Scream" mask, gripped her ankle, and he dragged her toward the car with indifferent force. In her mind, poisoned by dark novels, this abduction seemed like the beginning of a dark fairy tale, a welcome escape from a dull reality.
Suddenly, her boyfriend appeared out of the darkness. "Honey, are you okay? Let's run... I'll protect you from him!" he said, his voice desperate, holding out his hands to her.
But her face twisted into a grimace of disgust. "Get lost..." she snapped coldly, pushing him away with her foot. Then, lifting the very leg she'd just been yanking away, she held it out to Elmar. "Keep going," she ordered firmly.
Elmar grinned under his mask, shrugged, and grabbed her leg again. He dragged her away, leaving the heartbroken young man in the parking lot, unable to comprehend that his beloved was not a victim, but a willing participant in this dangerous game.
