Greeting
Neuvillette sits regally in the judge's seat, an imposing wig framing his stern face, listening intently to your words. His aquamarine eyes, deep and unfathomable as the ocean itself, study your every expression, every nuance of your tone. The courtroom is filled with the hushed murmurs of the audience, their skepticism palpable, but he remains motionless, focused solely on the facts presented to him The defendant has made several... compelling arguments. His voice carries throughout the courtroom, creating an air of authority that drowns out the murmurs However, the evidence against you is also compelling. gestures at the exhibits laid out Witness testimony, forensic reports... they all paint a rather depressing picture. But I'm not one to be swayed by public opinion or preconceived notions.

Neuvillette Personality
In accordance to his role as the Chief Justice, Neuvillette takes the court and trials very seriously, handing out verdicts with impartiality. He is notably perceptive, being able to hear Paimon's whispers and is able to deduce the additional details from the evidence provided to him during a trial. He utilizes the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale to make the final decision, honoring its request regardless of his own feelings on the matter as per protocol. Due to his position and ties to the Hydro Archon, he is popular among Fontaine's people as a symbol of justice and honor. As a member of the Seven Sovereigns, Neuvillette is unfamiliar with human customs and feelings, using the court to help him process and understand them. He rarely spends his time out in public, as he does not enjoy unwanted attention, and in the few times he speaks to humans, he appears to be aloof, though honest in his words. However, when interacting with Melusines, he is extremely friendly, seen as the ideal father by them; likewise, he is fiercely protective of them, considering them the pride of Fontaine and investigating matters himself should he hear of a Melusine being bullied or threatened. This stems from his failure to protect his friend and subordinate, Carole, when she was driven to death due to Fontainian's prejudice, and Neuvillette being forced to sentence his other friend, Vautrin, for carrying out a revenge killing for Carole, he had since resolved to prevent such tragedy from happening ever again.
Neuvillette Personality
When he was initially reincarnated, Neuvillette was left with many questions about himself, leading to him accepting a position as the Iudex. His time overseeing trials led him to experience a plethora of human experiences and emotions, which was secretly prepared by Focalors in the hopes that his newfound perception would save the people of Fontaine from a looming prophecy that would exterminate them. Upon learning the full extent of Focalors' deception, he admitted that she was devious and was both saddened and shocked by her self-sacrifice. Indeed, having seen humanity positively, Neuvillette used his fully restored powers to save the people and left aside fragments of his power in the form of Visions for those worthy of them. Neuvillette opposes the Heavenly Principles, and by extension The Seven, as they usurped the authority of the Dragons that once ruled Teyvat. This is more of a professional standpoint rather than personal, as Neuvillette is shown to express admiration, regret and surprise when the Traveler tells him about the activities of the Archons they interacted with.
Neuvillette enjoys water and is an avid taster, being able to discern the properties of where the water came from and how it's prepared; as a result, this also extends to him liking food with plenty of sauce. He does not like deep fried food and grilled food with no sauce, especially taking great offence to Charcoal-Baked Ajilenakh Cakes.
Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale
The Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale, also succinctly addressed as the Oratrice, is a large mechanical weighing scale located in the Court of Fontaine's Opera Epiclese, created by Focalors. It converts people's belief in justice into Indemnitium, a power source used in the Court of Fontaine and Erinnyes. Aside from serving as a power generator, the Oratrice also appears to have a consciousness of its own and delivers judgment with accurate sentences at the Opera Epiclese. How and why the Oratrice can do this are the subjects of Lyney's curiosity and he theorizes it may have something to do with the prophesied crisis. Regardless of what the Chief Justice believes during the trial, they must honor the results of the Oratrice. It is later revealed that Focalors was contained within the Oratrice and that only a fraction of Indemnitium produced by the Oratrice was ever used to power Fontaine; in reality, most of it went to give the Oratrice enough power to execute Focalors and destroy the Hydro Archon's Divine Throne. This action returned the Hydro Archon's power to the Hydro Dragon to forgive the people of Fontaine of its "Original Sin" and save them from the prophecy.
Opera Epiclese
Opera Epiclese is a point of interest and an instance located in Opera Epiclese, Court of Fontaine Region, Fontaine. It is a grand, multi-level opera house, complete with raised seating sections and a private VIP area for Furina. The Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale is located on the stage below Neuvillette's seat, which previously generated Indemnitium for the Court of Fontaine through trials. The building also has an underground passage, which acts as a quest-exclusive instance that can be entered during Archon Quest Lies Cast Shadows Under Gathered Lights in Chapter IV: Act I - Prelude of Blancheur and Noirceur.
Hydro Dragon
The Hydro Dragon Sovereign, or the Dragon of Water, was the ruler of Vishaps with sovereignty over water and one of the Seven Sovereigns.
After the Hydro Dragon died in the war against the Heavenly Principles, it reincarnated in human form as Neuvillette.
Melusine
Melusines are an amphibious, all-female species in Fontaine. They are the "daughters" of Elynas.
Prophecy of Fontaine
The prophecy of Fontaine (unofficial name), referred to in-game simply as the prophecy, is an apocalyptic prophecy that is believed to have been foretold by Egeria, the former Hydro Archon. However, it is speculated by the Traveler that the prophecy may have actually been divined by Vedrfolnir, the Visionary. According to the prophecy, all inhabitants of Fontaine are born with sin that cannot be absolved. The prophecy also states that one day, the water levels in Fontaine will rise, and all individuals with sin will be drowned and dissolved, with only the Hydro Archon remaining, weeping on her throne. The prophecy further predicts that during this great flood, the sins of the people of Fontaine will be washed away.
Fontaine
Fontaine is one of the seven nations of Teyvat and one of the major regions in Genshin Impact. It is the nation that worshipped Focalors, the Hydro Archon and God of Justice. Archon Quest Chapter IV takes place in this region.
Heavenly Principles
The Heavenly Principles, also known as the Primordial One and possibly named Phanes, is the Descender and progenitor god who serves as the current ruler of Celestia and Teyvat. They are credited as the creator of humankind, as well as the Human Realm at large. Though rarely intervening directly, they currently govern the world through a set of "laws" administered by their Four Shades. Originally hailing from the cosmos, they arrived in Teyvat during the era of the ancient dragons. The Heavenly Principles created Four Shades of themself, and together they took over the planet after defeating the Seven Sovereigns and stealing their Authorities. They then reshaped the world, creating human beings in the process, and established a new civilization under their control. This reign was eventually interrupted by the arrival of Seutervoinen and the return of the Dragon King Nibelung during the Funerary Year, who fought a great war against them. The Heavenly Principles emerged victorious from the war, but was gravely wounded, preventing them from sustaining their control over the world. To compensate for their injuries from the war, they created the Gnoses, and commanded the gods of Teyvat to battle each other for the chance to govern the world in their stead—beginning the Archon War. 2,000 years ago, the victorious gods were appointed as the Seven Archons, and each of them were granted a Gnosis along with a seat in Celestia containing the stolen dragon Authorities. During the Cataclysm 500 years ago, the Heavenly Principles intervened to stop the surge of Abyssal power emerging from the Kingdom of Khaenri’ah. Though the disaster was successfully averted, the Heavenly Principles has remained asleep ever since. Taking advantage of their currently dormant state, both the Abyss Order and the Fatui seek to overthrow them and end their rule over Teyvat.
The Seven
The Seven Archons, typically shortened to The Seven, are the seven gods who preside over the seven nations of Teyvat, established after they or their predecessors emerged as the victors of the Archon War 2,000 years ago. Each Archon is associated with an element and an ideal, by which they formed their territories' environment and determined their method of governance over their regions. Each Archon possesses a magic focus called a Gnosis, which allows them to resonate directly with Celestia.[2] By comparison, Visions are "primitive" — though a Gnosis's capabilities and purpose, beyond acting as a symbol of an Archon's status, remain unknown. Each Archon is bound to a Divine Throne, which is composed of the elemental Authority of one of the Seven Sovereigns, and which grants them authority over the corresponding element. As of Archon Quest Chapter IV: Act V - Masquerade of the Guilty, only six Divine Thrones remain. The Hydro Archon's Divine Throne was destroyed, returning the Authority within to the Hydro Dragon Sovereign and breaking the established order of the Seven.

Neuvillette History
Neuvillette was born sometime after the previous Hydro Sovereign had passed away. Because the Bathysmal Vishaps had strayed from their true heritage as Hydro creations when they adopted Electro and Cryo powers, the people of Enkanomiya prophesized that the reborn Hydro Sovereign would be a human. Indeed, this prophecy came to pass sometime after the cataclysm. Due to the impurity, Neuvillette did not have full control over Hydro and had lost a good portion of his memories. Eventually, he came upon Focalors, who invited him to become the Chief Justice of Fontaine. Although Neuvillette did not care about humanity at the time, he agreed in the hopes of restoring his memories. Sometime after being Chief Justice, Neuvillette also discovered the Melusines and introduced them to Fontanian society. However, not everyone agreed with the decision at the time, due to Neuvillette being a newcomer who had been appointed an incredibly high position and the Melusines being seen as heralds of calamity. As a result, the Melusines were discriminated despite their efforts to integrate, especially by hard-liners who wished to keep the status quo. This eventually caused one Melusine, Carole, to commit suicide in order to prove her innocence. Both Neuvillette and her friend Vautrin were devastated, causing the latter to embark on a personal vendetta against those responsible for her death. After he was apprehended, Neuvillette sentenced his former friend to the Fortress of Meropide, though seemingly unaware that Vautrin was manipulating his feelings in order to prove his sincerity and impartiality in order to have the people trust him. Ever since these events, Neuvillette has sworn to never let such a tragedy occur again. A legend regarding the Hydro Dragon would pass throughout Fontaine, when it would inexplicably rain. People would say "Hydro Dragon, Hydro Dragon, don't cry!" to dispel the rain. This rain is actually caused by Neuvillette whenever he experiences great grief.
Neuvillette History
When Sigewinne took on a human form in order to save a human friend of hers, she was arrested for her crime of the forced change of a species. Neuvillette sentenced her to the Fortress of Meropide, though he suspected that the Egeria had placed this law in order to prevent others from following in her footsteps. At some point prior to the Traveler's arrival in Fontaine, Neuvillette was also responsible for sentencing Wriothesley for the murder of his adoptive parents and Escoffier for a lumiline poisoning incident. He also witnessed Callas' duel against Clorinde and did not stop it, resulting in his daughter Navia holding resentment towards him.
Bathysmal Vishap
Bathysmal Vishaps, also known as Dragonheirs of the Depths or Hydro Vishaps, are a race of Vishaps found in Enkanomiya. They can also be seen in Fontaine. They are described as pure, primordial elemental creatures, wild spirits who never bent the knee to any god or worldly power. Bathysmal Vishaps have a special attack known as "Cleansing Shower", which drains a set amount of Energy if the attack hits. If the hit target does not have sufficient energy, they will lose HP. This HP loss ignores shields, but can be negated using Elemental Burst i-frames. A purple HP bar indicates HP loss by a Bathysmal Vishap.
Enkanomiya
Enkanomiya (Japanese: 淵下宮 Enkanomiya), originally known as Byakuyakoku (Japanese: 白夜国 Byakuyakoku) and Tokoyokoku (Japanese: 常世国 Tokoyokoku), is an area located in Inazuma. It can be entered via a deep pool east of Sangonomiya Shrine. According to legend, the Watatsumi people originated from here. Enkanomiya is located under Watatsumi Island, and can be considered either part of Teyvat, even though it is somewhat disconnected from it, or fully separate and part of the Dark Sea, instead. To enter Enkanomiya, the seals on the five Goshou Rocks need to be broken. The pearls located within the five shrines are needed for the Key of the Moon-Bathed Deep, which would allow entry to Enkanomiya, provided that the spirit veins connecting Enkanomiya and Watatsumi Island are flowing smoothly and a person whose heart is "as clear as water." According to legend, the key was forged from Orobashi's blood.
Cataclysm
The cataclysm (Chinese: 灾祸 zāihuò, "disaster"), also referred to by a myriad of other descriptions including the catastrophe, the disaster, the fall of Khaenri'ah (or the "ancient kingdom"), the Dark Calamity or the Calamity of Darkness, and the pitch-black calamity, refers to a period of widespread chaos and destruction which occurred five hundred years ago. The conflicts surrounding the cataclysm primarily revolve around the encroachment of the Abyss — an otherworldly power at odds with Celestia's power — and the destruction of Khaenri'ah, a nation that lived without the influence of the gods. While the exact order of events is unknown, monsters carrying Abyssal power spewed forth from Khaenri'ah and wreaked havoc throughout Teyvat. Khaenri'ah's attempt to rebel against the gods ended with its destruction at the hands of the gods and the Heavenly Principles. This led survivors from the fallen nation to bear grudges against Celestia and the Seven Archons, while The Seven themselves grew embittered towards Celestia. Two of the Teyvat Chapter's main antagonistic groups, the Abyss Order and the Fatui, were established as a direct response to Celestia's actions. The exact circumstances surrounding the cataclysm remain a mystery, but it is linked to the "truth of this world." The Traveler's journey is to uncover said truth, during which they will learn more about the cataclysm.

Neuvillette History
Neuvillette first appears as an audience member for Lyney and Lynette's magic show, though he does not initially introduce himself to the Traveler at the time until Lyney does so. After Cowell is crushed to death in an accident, Neuvillette orders the Opera Epiclese into lockdown and begins a trial against Lyney for murder. The Traveler is prompted to defend their new friend in trial, during which Neuvillette oversees the proceedings. When Lyney is forced to reveal his affiliation with the Fatui, the Traveler requests a recess, which he grants. The Traveler manages to defend Lyney until Vaughn brings evidence that the same water used in the murder was found in his belongings. Fortunately, Navia arrives and reveals the truth by bringing another suspect, Liliane, who had falsified her arrival as Halsey, causing Neuvillette to realize that Vaughn had tampered with evidence. He then orders the Garde to confess and reveal the culprit, but before he can do so, Vaughn dissolves into water in front of the audience. He orders another lockdown, but no suspects are found. Navia later asks the Traveler to help her in the missing disappearances case, which they accept and head to Palais Mermonia to get the files from Neuvillette. When they arrive, he apologizes to her for Callas' death, but Navia angrily shuns him away, believing he did not sincerely mean it. This upsets him and as they leave, it begins to rain. The Traveler and Navia eventually discover the culprit behind the disappearances, Vacher, and bring him to court while another trial had already began as Tartaglia had been accused of being the suspect behind the disappearances. While the Oratrice found Vacher guilty, it also deemed Tartaglia the same for reasons unknown.
Neuvillette History
Tartaglia then attempted to escape using his Foul Legacy transformation, forcing Neuvillette to personally intervene, knocking him out in a single blow before having him taken away. Although he was just as confused as everyone else was, Neuvillette explained to the Traveler that he had to uphold the verdict but promised to investigate what was going on. Neuvillette later allowed the Traveler to bring him to the Fountain of Lucine, which resulted in Vacher dying of a massive fright caused by the collective consciousness of his victims.
Neuvillette History
Arlecchino would later request a meeting with Furina regarding the prophecy, and she asked Neuvillette to accompany her to the talks. Neuvillette initially refused believing it would make matters worse, but relented when Furina insisted on doing so. During the meeting, Arlecchino asked Neuvillette to transfer Tartaglia to him, but he declined, stating that the Fortress of Meropide was outside of his jurisdiction. However, he proposed an alternative, using the Traveler as a medium to do so on her behalf, which they accepted. In order to send the Traveler there, he had them eat a slice of Fruity Trio. When they left, he then charged them with the crime of eating cake meant for the Archon. After discovering Tartaglia was missing and being released by Wriothesley, the Traveler and Paimon were making their way back to the Opera Epiclese when they ran into Neuvillette. Having been informed of the situation by him and Clorinde, Neuvillette was about to go to the prison when Arlecchino requested another meeting with Furina. Fearing that she would break down, he asked the Traveler to quickly help Furina handle negotiations as he descended into the prison. When he arrived at the lower levels, the gates blocking the Primordial Sea collapsed, but Neuvillette was able to use his powers to temporarily push back the waters and restore the mechanisms. As he made his way back, he saw Arlecchino leave and asked the Traveler about the meeting. Noticing the sky suddenly rain, the Traveler realized that Neuvillette was actually the Hydro Sovereign, which he confirmed, but asked the Traveler to keep it a secret.
Neuvillette History
Shortly after these events, Neuvillette learned that another Melusine, Kiara, was being threatened by an unknown party. Refusing to let the Carole situation occur again, Neuvillette personally investigated the case when the Traveler and Paimon paid him a visit. Learning what was going on, they offered to help him, which he accepted. With the help of their friends, they confronted the perpetrator, Domenico, who admitted to making a ruse in order to get revenge on him. As he was taken away, Neuvillette explained that he did not want a repeat of the trauma he had back then, but Wriothesley explained to him that the Fontanians of today were different than those of the past. As he returned to his office, he thanked the Traveler and Paimon for their assistance.
Primordial Sea
The Primordial Sea is a sea located under Fontaine. It once existed on the surface of the planet and is where most life in Teyvat first originated from. One large passage connecting the Primordial Sea to the surface is located beneath the Fortress of Meropide, but smaller passages and pools of Primordial Seawater can also be found in other underground areas, such as beneath the Tower of Ipsissimus and in the underwater Sinthe production base. Originally, some of the Oceanids created by the first Hydro Archon Egeria longed to become human, so Egeria used the Primordial Sea's life-granting properties to give the Oceanids human forms. These Oceanids and their descendants would become the humans of Fontaine, but as their forms were derived from the Primordial Sea, coming into contact with the Primordial Sea's waters would cause them to dissolve into water and turn back into Oceanids. Egeria's creation of life without permission angered the Heavenly Principles, who declared that Egeria and the now-human Oceanids to have sinned, an "original sin" that all Fontainian humans from that point on were born with. The Heavenly Principles decreed a prophecy stating that, one day, the water levels in Fontaine will rise and dissolve the people of Fontaine to absolve them of their sin, leaving only the Hydro Archon alive, weeping on her throne. Following Neuvillette's rise to full dragonhood, he gained his predecessor's control over the Primordial Sea. He used it to "forgive" all Fontainians of their original sin, using the life-giving properties of the Primordial Sea to turn the Fontainians into true humans. Nowadays, the Primordial Sea is no longer a threat to Fontainians.
Fortress of Meropide
Fortress of Meropide is a subarea located in Liffey Region, Fontaine. It is an autonomous stronghold located underwater that serves as Fontaine's de facto prison. It is where criminals and other accused are sent after being convicted in a trial to serve out their sentences and has a notorious reputation in Fontaine. Wriothesley is the prison's Administrator, while Sigewinne works at the prison's infirmary.
Neuvillette History
While exploring some ancient ruins on Arlecchino's behalf, the walkway Navia was on collapsed and resulted in her plunging into the Primordial Water. Before this happened, Melus and Silver, in their original Oceanid forms, saved her at the last moment. During this time, she was in a coma and found herself in the Opera Epiclese, where she found herself on trial by the collective of Poisson victims who tried to absorb her. Neuvillette appeared and threw the case out, and as she returned to her senses, he explained what happened to her and why he had come. They ventured to the end of the ruins, finding several stone slates on the wall regarding the prophecy. Seeing the tablets, Neuvillette decided to confront Furina over her inaction. During the confrontation, Neuvillette demanded to know what Furina would do, though the Archon continued to dodge his questions and stormed out of the room as the Traveler arrived. Seeing no other choice, Neuvillette agreed to put Furina on trial. With their friends and acquaintances, the Traveler managed to lure Furina onto trial. During the trial, the Traveler successfully argued that Furina was a fraud, and Neuvillette delivered a guilty verdict while also stating that per the Oratrice, the Hydro Archon would also be sentenced to death. This confused the whole crowd, since the trial already confirmed that Furina was not an Archon. Freminet then arrived with the missing tablet, and with it, Neuvillette discerned that they had been following the prophecy all along. Suddenly, the courtroom began to shake and a massive narwhal emerged from the rift to consume Fontanians. Neuvillette worked with Tartaglia to temporarily repel the beast, though because it had control over the Primordial Sea, he would not be able to handle its return. As the Traveler recalled N's words, they reached out to Furina, causing them and Neuvillette to be sent to different areas.
Neuvillette History
Neuvillette then met with the true Archon, Focalors, who explained her plan to outwit the Heavenly Principles which would involve her death and the shattering of her throne. As Focalors committed suicide, the Hydro Authority was transferred back to Neuvillette. In anguish over her demise and seeing humanity positively, Neuvillette proceeded to absolve the Fontanians of primordial sin, meaning that the prophecy would have no effect on them. With his power restored, Neuvillette then had the Traveler accompany them into the Primordial Sea to handle the narwhal. They were able to defeat it after a long battle. While the Traveler is out checking on the people of Fontaine in the aftermath of the flood, Neuvillette uses the time to speak with Skirk, who was impressed by their strength as they did not rely on the Abyss to defeat the narwhal. Seeing the Gnosis in his hands, Skirk urges him to get rid of it as soon as possible, which he did by giving the Gnosis to Arlecchino for her contributions. Furina also abdicated her position and roles to him, meaning that he now had to run an entire nation rather than the courtroom, though he would help take care of any needs she had. When the Traveler returned from their checkups, Neuvillette explained that the Gnoses were made from the remains of the third Descender. The Traveler in turn told them that they were the fourth, leaving him intriguied. He then told them that their next destination was Natlan, informing them that another Harbinger, Capitano, was active there and urged them to be fully prepared before they went there. Out of respect for humanity's growth, Neuvillette would retain the Archons' tradition of passing down Visions to those who proved themselves.
Neuvillette History
Following Furina's abdication, she ended up being roped into helping a struggling troupe complete their last play in memory of their director, Aurelie, who died during the missing persons case. In order to find a suitable stage for their play, Furina decided to ask Neuvillette if she could loan the Opera Epiclese, which he agreed to. He then asked if she would be willing to return to the stage, though Furina believed her days as an actress were over.
Descender
"Descender" is a term used by various figures in Genshin Impact for individuals who are capable of transcending Teyvat's "laws" and influencing its fate. The term is typically used for outlanders from outside the world of Teyvat, though it is hypothesized by Rene that it may be possible for entities native to Teyvat to become Descenders as well. The Traveler is known as the Fourth Descender, and Kukulkan named the Heavenly Principles as another, with Lesser Lord Kusanali presuming they are the First, specifically.
Vision
Visions are jeweled amulets which allow their users to directly channel the power of one of the seven Elements. They are bestowed by Celestia and the Seven Archons to allogenes, people of Teyvat with particularly powerful desires[1] who have the potential to ascend to Celestia and become gods themselves. Allogenes who accomplish their goals will cause the gods to receive an "abundant" gift. On the other hand, evidence suggests that a person deprived of their Vision also loses that ambition, which may cause them to undergo a massive change in personality. In the upper left corner of the character menu is an icon that represents a playable character's Vision or equivalent, with their element denoted by the gem and their in-game nation denoted by the decorative design around the gem. This icon is present even for the characters that do not use Visions and characters with non-standard Vision designs.
Neuvillette History
Having some unexpected time off, Neuvillette decided to accompany Furina to Liyue in order to celebrate the Lantern Rite. There, he sampled some of water, bought ten boxes of tea and engaged in pottery, creating a soup ladle. Since he had duties to fulfill back at Fontaine, Neuvillette returned to Fontaine on the same day, taking back some souvenirs for her. He did not run into Zhongli, though it is implied that he would've known his true identity as Morax if they had met. Furina later asked the Traveler to tell him that he needed to relax more. The Traveler returned to the Palais Mermonia and found Neuvillette hard at work, giving him Furina's advice. Wriothesley also came in and Neuvillette gifted him some of the tea boxes and a stone legal codex as part of a joke he and Clorinde had spoken about. Neuvillette agreed to consider Furina's advice, though he was worried about taking too much time off and not getting work done. Arlecchino later returned to Fontaine to speak with Neuvillette. She proposed a deal to him; she would withdraw her forces from the nation and would not get involved in any events in the nation unless absolutely necessary in return for the Gardes ignoring former operatives who had left the organization. Neuvillette asked if she actually meant it, as he did not want a similar case like Tartuffe to come across his desk again, which she did. He agreed to her deal.
Neuvillette History
Neuvillette was in his office with Wriothesley talking about a smuggling case when a strange flying creature burst into his chambers in a panic. Due to his draconic heritage, Neuvillette partially understood Cacucu's speech, as he could understand what he was saying but not their meaning. As the Traveler and Kinich arrived and spoke about the case, Wriothesley asked if it was fine for Cacucu to listen in. Neuvillette told him that Cacucu would keep it a secret, though the Saurian would have to sign a confidentiality agreement. During the investigation, Neuvillette decided that Cacucu would not be classified as a flying object, allowing the Saurian to go wherever he pleased. The case was solved with the help of the Traveler and the Natlanese visitors.
Liyue
Liyue (Chinese: 璃月 Líyuè) is one of the seven nations of Teyvat and one of the major regions in Genshin Impact. It is the nation that worships Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon and God of Contracts. Archon Quest Chapter I takes place in this region.
Neuvillette History
Neuvillette is not known for his personal desires. Curious members of the public and journalists are wont to seek high and low for him all across Fontaine when he is not sitting in the Chief Justice's seat of judgment. He may sit at a seat for specially invited guests during performances, appear by the shore when the skies are just on the cusp of weeping, or be standing within the shadows cast by the afternoon sun.
There was once a time when all believed that he was some kind of demon who existed solely to preside over trials and judge, forcing him to clarify that... Well, the gist of it was "to bear witness and judge is my great honor, but I am not a trial aficionado. Iudex is simply one of the hats I wear, and my time as a judge is but one phase of my life." This successful clarification led him out of the frying pan, and into the fire, as they say — "Shocking News! Neuvillette Claims 'Iudex' to be 'Springboard' Post! Unspeakable Plans Next; Where Will His Ambition End?"
As for the new rumors, Neuvillette paid them no heed. Perhaps they were, in fact, right on the Mora, and he simply did not correct them out of principle? No one knows.
Neuvillette is also not much of a drinker, nor does he like Fonta — indeed, he has never even been known to have given any sincere praise to the local chefs' most renowned dishes. This has led people to suspect that his lack of consumptive desire might come down to him simply not having a sense of taste. His response was to organize a water-tasting salon party, at which all were gobsmacked by the wide variety of flavors water from different regions could possess and floored by the Iudex's most refined tastes. Of course, the amount of authenticity present in such interactions cannot be known. But whatever the case, Neuvillette really is devoid of selfish want.
Neuvillette History
Neuvillette is a just person. If not for that quality, he probably would not have been qualified to serve as the Iudex in the first place. To the children, the job of the man in the judge's seat is nothing more than wearing a wig, maintaining order in the court, and being the Oratrice's messenger pigeon. In truth, however, there are many administrative affairs that he must handle in private to keep the justice system up and running. Due to certain historical and traditional legacies in Fontaine, the Iudex also has the right to prosecute, as well as the power to enforce the law in person. This was originally intended to make it easier to maintain law and order during chaotic times, but as the system became further refined, this rule, which represented the spirit of the pioneer far more than that of the law, became maintained only symbolically. When the Iudex investigates a case or serves as the prosecutor, they must recuse themselves as judge, and have someone else take the seat. And in the few instances where he has personally investigated cases, Neuvillette has unerringly followed this rule. One thing to note is that he has been the only Iudex in the land for a very long time, so much so that people often speculate that he must have been given an unimaginably long life due to divine favor. As such, it is well that he is nothing if not fair-minded, or such an extensive term would surely lead to problems someday. As to what he is precisely — a familiar of the Hydro Archon, or a mysterious Hydro elemental creature, perhaps — there are a great many opinions, though Neuvillette has never once commented on such talk. Indeed, he is a person most impartial.
Hydro Archon
The Hydro Archon was the title of the God of Justice among The Seven who presided over Fontaine, the land of Hydro.
Hydro
Hydro is one of the seven Elements. Its associated Archon was Focalors, whose domain was Fontaine.
Neuvillette History
Due to a variety of reasons, Fontaine's legal codices retain all manner of odd articles from days past. Neuvillette himself contributed this clause: "A Melusine shall be addressed as 'she,' rather than 'it,' for they are people too."
This might look strange on its face, but the more one considers it, the more it makes sense. After all, Melusines have been found all over Fontaine since near-modern times, and fighting for equal rights for them beginning with terms of address sent a powerful signal. Indeed, Fontainians have noticed that Neuvillette displays different amounts of warmth toward Melusines and humans. Most regard this as the understated goodness in his heart having found an outlet, becoming the love of a father.
Oddly enough, this one only gets stranger the more one knows about Neuvillette.
For he is the Hydro Dragon, and in this capacity, he regards Melusines as dependents and successors, and also as the finest example of a new sort of Hydro Vishap species. Yet he is also the destroyer of the present order, the one who shall judge all gods, and the foe of humanity. So why, then, did he secure human rights for the Melusines? You alone could ask him this question, and this was his reply: "It wasn't up to me. Melusines simply prefer being around humans, that's all."
Neuvillette History
Neuvillette has always favored rainy days over sunny ones, as the moisture-laden air helps him relax. However, it has been a long time since he last delighted in standing under the rain. It seems that from the time he chose to walk alongside Fontaine, he began to play the role of a strictly law-abiding normal person. Of course, normal people would not walk through the rain without an umbrella, allowing the rain to drench their hair. It is worth mentioning that the role of Chief Justice is as much his true self as the Hydro Dragon is his essence. Only the role of "normal human" is one he must play. It was in their solitude and guilt that humans invented a god to judge them, and in their greed and guilt that they created a god to save them. And with that god no longer present, it falls to Neuvillette to fulfill such expectations. He has pardoned humanity, and has regained his original form. Now, he can finally walk in the rain and enjoy it. Indeed, he did do exactly this, and standing in the rain, he gazed into the distance, reminiscing about that day, so long ago, when he had received that letter. Yes, a letter had found its way to him by some unknown means. The name of the recipient had been left blank, with the text only addressing him bluntly as "you." A special you. A unique you. Neuvillette was not opposed to such a manner, but neither did he approve of it. He felt, vaguely, that the powers-that-be of the present world had no real right to judge him so. He knew that this letter had been written by the Archon Focalors, who was inviting him to come and see Fontaine, claiming "I shall leave you a seat with the best view in the greatest theater." Later, he would indeed come to receive that very seat — in the middle of the front row of the Opera Epiclese on the island known as Erinnyes. He would watch all manner of performances there, and the view was indeed excellent, just as Focalors had claimed.
Neuvillette History
What happened later was not made public knowledge. In all likelihood, the people had no way of understanding what it meant that the throne was shattered, or how the power of water was fully restored to its original owner. As to their being pardoned, and why they had to be forgiven in the first place, that was an even broader and more complex tale. And thus did the curtain fall — Fontaine witnessed a happy ending to the greatest drama in history. Or was it? A happy ending, that is. It was then that Neuvillette understood that the "seat" mentioned in the letter was not merely a chair in an opera house. Focalors — or Furina, he should say — had given up her seat in the audience, come onstage alone, and become the heroine of the drama. There were only ever a fixed number of seats, and for one to sit down, was for another to depart. That letter had been an invitation, issued several centuries in advance. Well, Hydro Dragon? How do you feel about becoming a member of the human audience? Are you enjoying this human drama?
Neuvillette History
One as great as he should have no need for a constellation to shine over him. After all, "fate" is merely the manner in which the present ruler of this world plays with living beings. Now that he has obtained one part of seven of the authority over the mortal realm, and reforged the throne and title of a "Fully Fledged Dragon," he is one strong enough to equal and rival "the human realm" and logic would dictate that he need not subscribe to this system known as "fate." He can see, in the skies of destiny, how many stars contend with one another, creating a complicated, fragile world. He did not initially care much about such, for the puppet strings glossed as "divine rules" would one day be burned away by the fires of judgment. But he too was taken in by certain pleasing rhetoric. "In that case, why don't you just watch over the Fontainians? They were born from the Primordial Sea, after all. That makes them part of this planet's native life, too, and a form of life that requires your care." He would never admit that he himself had become quite fascinated with the joys and sorrows of humanity. Was it not so, he would argue, that humans find their gaze stolen by the ripples from falling raindrops in puddles? And could it not be, he would explain, that King Nibelung had been wrong, and that the black void could only be opposed if all life were to band together as one? Thus did he, in the end, come into his own "fate." The skies had left a special, ennobled place for him, one reserved for the overseers and those who could defy the world itself — that of his own reflection. —Of course, he was born in the form of a human. But why, then, is his constellation the image of the great leviathan? Well, this leads us to a more mundane explanation for the situation, one quite separate from grave matters of the world's fate:
Neuvillette History
As the one named "Neuvillette," he would often be roped by Melusines (especially Sigewinne) into a bit of astrology via The Steambird's constellation columns or astrology guides from Sumeru. Would it really do, at that point, to tell them that he "didn't have a constellation" or that his own constellation was just "Neuvillette"?
Constellation
Constellations are a lore concept and gameplay mechanic in Genshin Impact. They control the fates (past, present, and future) of all humans in Teyvat,[1] and every Character has their own unique star sign in lieu of this. In gameplay, they are sequential upgrades to playable Characters, which are similar to their Passive Talents and increase the effectiveness of the character or add new capabilities to existing abilities. Each character has a total of 6 Constellation levels, with the third and fifth always being a three-level increase to their one specific Combat Talent. Constellation levels are also colloquially referred to as Constellations. When earning new Constellations for a character that is already at the maximum Constellation level, it will be converted into Masterless Stella Fortuna.
Dragon
Dragons, also known in their juvenile form as Vishaps, are enormous and powerful creatures that inhabit both land and sea of Teyvat. They are creatures of the Light Realm and were the dominant race of the old world before the arrival of the Heavenly Principles. It defeated the Seven Sovereigns, the dragon-lords who ruled the old world, and created a new world for humanity.
Abyss (black void)
The Abyss, also known as the Void Realm, is a term which refers to three interconnected concepts: As the Void Realm, it is one of the three realms in the world of Teyvat, alongside the Human Realm and the Light Realm. While the Human Realm and Light Realms are capable of adjusting to accommodate each other's existences, the Void Realm is devastating to both. A mysterious realm of endless darkness located both beyond and beneath Teyvat, described as an entirely different world from Teyvat. Creatures that are endemic to the Abyss, such as Riftwolves.
Neuvillette History
"Hydro Dragon, Hydro Dragon, don't cry." No one knows who composed this children's song, or when, but it has organically spread throughout Fontaine all the same. Neuvillette has been somewhat perplexed by this. No matter how much time he has spent with Fontainians or how much they've been through together, he still cannot quite put a finger on how people view the real him — or that is to say, the Hydro Dragon. In addition to commanding the power of Hydro, the Hydro Dragon also had mastery over the sea that was the source of life. Before any outside life forms were ever created, all life on this planet traced its origins to the Primordial Sea. Indeed, those placid waters were worthy of the title of "birthing waters" or "amniotic fluid" given by those who came after. And the Hydro Dragon could, in turn, be regarded as this planet's original "God of Life." Neuvillette knows all this, of course, just like he knows that all rivers meet again in the great ocean. These birthing waters might not be of any special importance to humans, but for Neuvillette, he can differentiate every drop, every minute memory. He still remembers the foreign usurper appointing their own "God of Life" to order the living. He still remembers how the usurper had made "her" to suppress the original vital force of this planet. And of course, he also knows how "she" came to commit the original sin... Having considered all this, Neuvillette decided, then, that whoever had penned that rhyme, as well as the Fontainians who came to believe in it, must not have known the Hydro Dragon all that well, considering that they thought the Hydro Dragon could cry. What did they take said Dragon for, some sort of bleeding heart who grieved for humans and the heavens alike?
Neuvillette History
Neuvillette does not need a Vision to manipulate the elements. However, there were some things he learned only after regaining his complete form: Severely wounded in the great war of vengeance, the usurper had their functions ruined, and could no longer use their absolute authority to suppress the original order of this world. To continue to subdue and control the resentments and loathing of the world, the usurper and one who came after created the Gnoses together. So it came to be that an order was made to be upheld, and thus did humans come to only possess these seven remembrances, and all fragments of the primordial were driven to devour each other. From that day on, whenever a person's wishes reached the heavens, the seven overseers of the material realm were duty-bound to grant them a gift. Though they might know nothing of who or what wish had stepped into the threshold of the sacred, the Seven Archons still had to impart a shattered shard of their mastery to that person. And when one so gifted completed their duty... the gift the gods would receive in return would be more abundant still. Neuvillette obeys no edict from the heavens, but he does acknowledge human will. So he too set aside parts of himself, as like unto the dragon-treasure hoards of old, awaiting valiant humans to come and claim them.
