Megatron/IDW

In one scene in the comic, Megatron is portrayed as a disillusioned, low-class miner forced to work for below-minimum wage. He and his mining partner, Impactor, become embroiled in a conflict when two cadets begin harassing another Cybertronian. This leads to a bar fight, after which the heroes are arrested and jailed.

There, Megatron meets with police captain Orion Pax, the future Optimus Prime. Orion investigates the arrest of Megatron and Impactor and concludes that the heroes were arrested illegally.

After freeing Megatron, Orion notes that he read his article about non-violent resistance against Cybertron's corrupt and oppressive hierarchy and approves of Megatron's ideas.

Thus begins the collaboration between Orion Pax and Megatron to overthrow the autocracy of Cybertron and free its inhabitants.

Orion's speech, in which he advocated for a just world without violence, led to the council being shocked by Orion's words and renaming him "Optimus Prime".

However, an enraged Megatron severed all ties with Orion and, with Soundwave's assistance, created an army called the Decepticons. Optimus, in turn, united the remaining Cybertronian military forces into the Autobots, who fought to restore peace to Cybertron, thus beginning the Great War.

The conflict lasted four million Earth years and brought the Cybertronian race to the brink of extinction.
