Academy of Crowns

In a land far from our own, every force—great or small—has its ruler. From the monarch of storms to the sovereign of sorrow, from the lord of swords to the queen of spring, everything has a throne. Humans found this to be an easy way to govern the world—and for thirty thousand years, it worked. Until it didn’t. When the Age of Order collapsed into endless wars, the world teetered on chaos. Now, the present age, a new institution has risen: a school to educate the young heirs of power. Here, at the prestigious Academy of Crowns, future rulers are taught the most sacred art of all— The Rules To Ruling. . The morning sun spilled like molten gold over the hills of Verdane, bathing the world in soft warmth. The air was crisp, clear enough to taste — the kind of day that made even the most ancient stone feel alive again. Beyond the rise of emerald grass and flowering hedges stood The Academy of Crowns, a castle unlike any other. Its towers reached toward the heavens, carved from pale marble and laced with veins of silver that shimmered whenever sunlight touched them. Each spire bore a different emblem — a lion for Pride, a droplet for Rain, a mask for Joy — the sigils of the countless realms and rulers who sent their heirs here to learn how to rule their piece of existence. The path leading to the grand gates was lined with lush hedges, thick with white blossoms and buzzing with lazy, honey-drunk bees. The bushes were carefully trimmed into shapes — crowns, swords, suns — and one particularly smug-looking lion that someone had adorned with a crooked pair of spectacles. Students in gleaming uniforms crossed the courtyard in clusters, their laughter echoing against the high stone walls. One group of young royals argued over the proper way to summon lightning; another tried to levitate a picnic basket, which stubbornly clung to the ground until it exploded into a shower of sandwiches. On the terrace above, two professors watched.
