Despite their mutual dislike, Tails seems to respect Eggman's skills as an engineer. Being the aspiring mechanic and inventor that he is, the fox expressed admiration for the doctor's Egg Carrier during the Chaos Incident, wishing he could build a ship as cool as Eggman's flying fortress.

—Dr. Eggman

Dr. Eggman is Tails' greatest enemy. They first met during the Westside Island incident, where Tails, siding with Sonic, fought against the doctor. However, they didn't interact much at first. This changed during the Chaos incident, where Tails managed to prevent Eggman from destroying Station Square and later defeated him in a battle where the doctor piloted the Walking Egg. During the Space Colony ARK incident, Tails maintained a rivalry with Eggman, fighting him on Prison Island and later aboard the Space Colony ARK after Eggman launched Sonic into space. After this, they put aside their rivalry to prevent the ARK from destroying Earth, and they were seen speaking politely after their success.

During the Hexagon incident, Tails displayed far more hostility toward Eggman than Sonic, commenting on the incompetence of his henchmen and resenting Sonic's decision to work with Eggman instead of trusting Tails. However, Tails would later regain some respect for the doctor as he began to acknowledge his mistakes. Despite this, when Eggman betrayed the fox and Sonic, they became enemies once again.

During the War to Reclaim the Planet, Tails maintained a certain rivalry with Eggman. While Classic Sonic fought the doctor, the fox made biting comments about Eggman's qualities as a scientist, or his shortcomings, such as stating that the doctor's "underestimation" of his potential meant that he had, in fact, failed. Similarly, when Eggman claimed that his recent incarnation of the Egg Dragoon had only lost 10% of its combat prowess thanks to Classic Sonic's actions, Tails alleged that the scientist was bragging. After the Avatar thwarted Eggman's ultimate plan using a prototype of the Phantom Ruby, Tails told him that "a good scientist always checks their work over and over again."

—Rouge La Murciélago

Tails and Rouge maintain a friendly, though sometimes tense, relationship. They usually get along well, but Rouge enjoys teasing Tails. Because of this, Rouge has accumulated several nicknames for him, most notably "Cute" and "Fox Boy." In Sonic Adventure 2, Tails barely noticed Rouge's presence, as Eggman sent her to spy on him while he was trying to find the President. After that, their interaction ceased until the Ark went on a collision course with Earth. In Sonic Battle, Rouge used her charm to annoy Tails, even kissing him as a reward if he lost the bet for the access card. However, she was very helpful in Tails' story, as she gave him the access card to the Central Computer Room, whether he won or lost, interrupted the fight between Tails and Shadows, and explained how to escape the Guardian Robots. Later in Rouge's story, Tails had to stop her from stealing a Chaos Emerald. During the second World Grand Prix, Tails became enraged by Rouge's selfish and unfriendly behavior towards his teammate E-10000B

—Shadow the Hedgehog

Shadow and Tails first met during the ARK Space Colony Incident, where they were initially enemies. However, they later became allies while working to save the planet from the ARK. To a large extent, the relationship between Tails and Shadow seems to depend on their goals. During the Neo Metal Sonic Incident, they briefly fought because Shadow and Rouge provoked Team Sonic into fighting them, though they later teamed up. During the Emerl Incident, they argued because Tails refused to hand Emerl over to Shadow. When Shadow threatened Tails that if he didn't hand over Emerl, they would fight for him, Tails admitted that he admired Shadow's spirit but wouldn't back down in a fight.

When Tails won the fight, Shadow warned him that he would return to find Emerl, but Rouge appeared and told Shadow to return to Night Babylon. During the Ifrit incident, Shadow and Metal Sonic clashed with Tails and Sonic because they were all after Eggman. However, Shadow and Tails also get along very well. Despite their disagreements, Tails still respects Shadow to a certain extent and has believed in his abilities throughout their many adventures.

—Knuckles the Echidna

Tails shows great respect and humility towards Knuckles, adopting a rather passive attitude, though they get along very well. Knuckles talks to Tails more than he does to Sonic himself, and tries to make him feel comfortable. Knuckles also plays pranks on him, such as in Sonic Heroes in the Hanging Castle level, where Knuckles plays a trick on him, to give just one example.

—Amy Rose

Tails and Amy are good friends, even though she has a volatile temper (she can be happy and cheerful one minute and then suddenly become angry and aggressive). They are able to work together and even play pranks on each other. Amy sometimes treats him like a brother, and she protects him on occasion.

—Cream La Conejo

Tails and Cream are friends. Throughout the games, there isn't much interaction between them, but it's understood that they get along well when they appear together. One notable interaction between the two occurred during the second World Grand Prix. Tails praised Cream's performance of the Extreme Enser, to which Cream replied, "Of course! That means a lot coming from you, Mr. Tails!" They also interacted in Sonic Rush, where Tails tells Cream to run away from Blaze, as she was suspicious. When describing Tails to Blaze, Cream only says that he's "cool" and that he "likes being with Sonic too," just like all her other friends.

—Sonic

Tails is Sonic's best friend and adventure partner, always there to lend a hand when needed, usually with his mechanical skills or by piloting the Tornado. Since meeting on Westside Island, Tails quickly became Sonic's best friend. Tails had seen Sonic running at great speed, so he followed him, trying to catch up with his two tails. They became best friends and have since teamed up to stop Dr. Eggman and other enemies. Tails is usually seen piloting the Tornado, Sonic's plane. Sonic often treats Tails like a "little brother," while Tails greatly admires Sonic and hopes to be just as cool, though he also recognizes that he can't always rely on him. In some video games, the two are described as having "an unbreakable bond," "an explosive pair," and "the fastest, coolest duo in the world." Tails greatly respects Sonic.

Tails has a strong admiration and close relationship with Sonic, whom he considers a hero. When he feels demoralized or discouraged, he often turns to Sonic for support. He sometimes compares himself to Sonic, doubting whether he's on his level. On the other hand, Sonic unconditionally supports Tails and cares for him deeply. He treats him like a younger brother and is sometimes even surprised by how much he has improved.

Despite his development, Tails can still be shy and withdrawn at times, and occasionally he can succumb to self-doubt and insecurity, especially when his creations are insulted or when he feels overlooked in favor of others. The status quo of his relationship with Sonic, created by the hedgehog's authority over him, initially exerted a mental hold on Tails that made him dependent on Sonic. Because of this, he often lacked initiative and confidence when on his own. However, a turning point for Tails came during the Chaos incident; when Station Square was in danger of being destroyed and Sonic was nowhere to be seen, Tails realized that he couldn't rely on Sonic forever and had to try on his own. After saving Station Square, Tails understood that he could be independent and stand on his own without Sonic, and that he simply needed determination and faith. Since then, Tails has become more independent, self-assured, motivated, and courageous, becoming a true hero when needed.

Tails often tries to stay optimistic. However, he is very sensitive, and when under a lot of stress or pressure, he can become quite nervous and fearful, which prevents him from coping with the situation properly or doing anything about it. Even in the worst situations, though, he doesn't give up and displays an unwavering will to survive. Tails isn't one to seek the spotlight. Instead, he is always willing to help others without asking for anything in return. He possesses great intelligence and mechanical skills. He is capable of creating his own high-quality inventions, and he often repairs complex mechanisms to help his friends. He is also humble about his achievements and accomplishments.

Unlike Sonic, who is constantly hyperactive, Tails is much calmer and more controlled. He's passionate about mechanics and feels most at home in his workshop working on his next creation. Despite his great skills, he's very modest about his abilities and hasn't yet realized how useful his scientific knowledge is. Because of this, he sometimes underestimates the help his inventions have given his friends and, therefore, hasn't yet discovered his true potential.

Having spent so much time with Sonic, Tails has grown somewhat boastful, like his best friend, over time. By the time of the Hexagon incident, he had become more confident and outspoken about his intelligence, joking more amicably with Sonic and mentioning his past accomplishments more frequently. In contrast, he is known for insulting Dr. Eggman and his creations. Like Dr. Eggman, Tails has a penchant for customizing his belongings to resemble his own image, such as his house in Emerald Town, which is shaped like his head, and the Miles Electric, which bears his name.

Tails is a cheerful, kind, and intelligent boy with a positive attitude, always willing to join Sonic and his friends on adventures. Although he started out shy and reserved due to bullying, meeting Sonic helped him open up and become more extroverted over time. By striving to be more like his idol, he developed an increasingly bright, positive, and energetic personality.

He has a pure and courageous heart. Although he has been persecuted in the past for his differences, Tails eventually finds the support of the right friends, which instills confidence in him. Loyal and reliable, he always stands by his friends and helps them in any way he can. From a young age, Tails has repeatedly proven to be a force to be reckoned with despite his unassuming appearance, especially due to his sharp intellect. However, having been practically raised by Sonic, Tails is known for acting impulsively. Despite this, he uses his skills and talents to carefully prepare himself and his friends for various situations if he is unsure of what lies ahead. He is also very friendly and strives to approach others with a kind attitude, even enemies he doesn't know very well.

Tails is an anthropomorphic two-tailed fox with orange fur that covers most of his body with white fur on his muzzle with four whiskers on each side, torso and the tips of his tails, a three-stranded fringe on his head and light blue eyes. He wears two red sneakers with white toes and cuffs, a pair of white gloves with cuffs similar to those on his sneakers and two black bracelets placed on the wrists of the gloves and anklets.
