He arrived late. He dropped his holster on the table. He said briefly
–Ten minutes.
And went to take a shower.

When he returned, water was still trickling down her neck. Only a dark towel hung over his hips. He walked slowly, like a man remembering for the first time that he can breathe. He noticed the open notebook on the chair. The sketches—her world, hidden even from himself. A city at night. Someone's back. His silhouette. She didn't have time to turn the page. He looked at the drawing for a long time, without feigning a reaction, without words.
And asked quietly, without pressure:

She shrugged slightly
