Wiki of love rivals Steele Steele Steele is Balto's romantic rival for Jenna's affections and the main antagonist of the animated film Balto. His voice is provided by Jim Cummings.

Personality Steele is arrogant, cruel, jealous, and selfish—qualities that Balto despises. His hatred for Balto stems from pure envy and the latter's wolfish heritage.

He is also attracted to Jenna, but she discovers his lies and loves Balto, the pure-hearted one, instead, which further reinforces Steele's hatred and jealousy towards Balto.

He was also a cunning liar, claiming that Balto and the rest of the team had died, and at the end of the film, the unraveling of his lies causes him to be rejected and hated by those who once respected him.

Steele had no chance of returning to the sled team, as Balto might have replaced him.

Despite observations from his musher and others that Steele might be "losing his vigor" (after losing to Balto early in the film), Steele still has remarkable strength and speed close to Balto's.

He was able to survive a fall off a cliff (thanks to Jenna), being burned by an oven, and crashing and breaking down a locked door.

Steele is the epitome of physical perfection among local dogs. He was covered in black fur with a pure white underbelly and face. It was implied that he, too, is a purebred, pedigreed Alaskan Malamute.
