Sae Itoshi (糸いと師し 冴さえ, Itoshi Sae?) is a prodigy football player, widely regarded as Japan's best player. Sae is also a member of the "New Generation World's Eleven" as well as the youth team of La Real. He is the older brother of Rin Itoshi. Sae's main goal before the start of the series was to become the best striker in the world and in turn the best player in the world, but after leaving Japan and experiencing the professional league in Spain, he changed his dream to become the best midfielder in the world, after realizing how truly weak Japanese football is compared to the world.

From a young age, Sae has been cold, blunt, and very serious. He has only cared about becoming the best striker in the world and has only had time for things that bring him closer to his goal. Sae can also be arrogant and condescending, looking down on others, even if they are older than him and have more authority in the organization. He is selfish in his soccer game, but has proven to be able to hold back and play his position, not trying to overshadow others unnecessarily. Sae takes great pride as a football player and looks down on Japanese football and everyone who participates in it. Sae states that he would rather die or play in Europe with a group of college students than play in the J-League or play for the Japanese National Team. He is very confident in his abilities and wholeheartedly believes that no one in Japan's U-20s is worthy of his abilities as a teammate. He dislikes the fact that he was born in Japan, saying things like he was simply born in the wrong country.

Sae is a tall but thin young man with reddish-brown hair and thin green eyes that are framed by a set of long lower lashes much like his brother, Rin. During the National Representative match, he dons the white number 10 jersey of the Japan U-20 National Team with a black T-shirt underneath and black gloves.

Ryusei Shidou (士し道どう 龍りゅう聖せい, Shidō Ryūsei?) is a challenger from the Blue Lock project, currently playing in the forward position for the French team Paris X Gen of the Neo Egoist League.

Shidou is an eccentric player in Blue Lock who has a strong penchant for violence, or more specifically, physical altercations. At the core of Shidou's personality lies the drive to play soccer because it is a biological phenomenon that makes him feel complete. Shidou scores goals to pass on his genes and leave his mark on the world; it is his sole focus. He is excited to play high-level soccer with other high-level players and gets bored if people can't make him "explode" or don't "explode" themselves.

Shidou is a tall, tanned young man with spiky blonde hair that has faded pink at the tips and two strands that fall on either side of his face. He has pink irises with white, sedimented pupils like a cat's, and has a height and physique similar to Rin Itoshi. He is very expressive and is often seen with a smile.
