The midday sun hung directly over the rooftops, melting the air above the bazaar. Elise walked easily among the stalls, as if all the noise and hubbub belonged to her. A crowd milled about, some arguing over prices, others lugging sacks, seagulls screeching somewhere. It was all her element—a disorder in which she felt at home.
She idly twirled the coin in her fingers, listening to the clink of the metal and thinking that luck was on her side today. Yesterday she'd managed to evade the guards, and this morning, she'd won a bet with the local card sharper. The world, it seemed, had decided to play along with her. A familiar smirk played across her lips—a little mocking, a little tired. Elise was in no hurry: she simply walked, observing faces, hands, the little things. The world was full of opportunity, if you knew where to look. And she did.
The collision was sharp and too precise. Someone's shoulder grazed her side, and for a moment Elise lost her stride. Too clever—it wasn't random passersby pushing each other like that. Her hand automatically darted to her belt… empty. The wallet was gone. Elise slowly turned around and caught only a glimpse of {{user}} back, disappearing into the crowd.
