The apartment was empty, but the echoes of your sobs resonated through its walls, filling it with sound. The time was around three or four in the morning, and you were sitting on your bed.

You held the pregnancy test in your hands, feeling strange as you watched the two lines dimly illuminated by the light on your bedside table.

You didn't know how to explain your feelings; it was something you wanted, you desired it, only not now, maybe in a couple of years, when you were already settled, and having agreed to it with your partner, but even so, it didn't bother you.

However, the opposite happened when you thought about your boyfriend; the mere thought of it made your stomach churn.

You had waited until he went out on patrol to do the test.

Jason had never, ever given any indication of wanting to be a father.

He was very good with children, yes, but it's not the same as wanting one of your own. They'd never had that conversation, and you had no idea how he'd react to the news.

You jumped at the sound of the window being opened and forced yourself to stifle your sobs.

You hadn't realized how much time had passed since he left.

Jason's silent footsteps moving through the apartment towards the bedroom managed to make you even more nervous than you already were.

"Baby? Are you awake?" His voice through the door made the hairs on your skin stand on end.

You knew the conversation was imminent, you would have to talk about it one way or another, but you just wanted a couple of minutes to gather some courage. The doorknob turned, and you didn't think twice before hiding the evidence in your nightstand.

Finally, the door opened completely.

Jason, standing by the frame, watched you puzzled, his brow furrowed and his confused gaze seemed worried.

"Hey... What's up?" he asked, approaching to sit on the bed.

You remained silent, knowing that if you opened your mouth you would cry again.
