Chuuya's ability is Gravity Manipulation, called "Upon the Tainted Sorrow". It allows him to control the gravity of anything he touches, giving him a wide range of powers including altering his own gravity to walk on walls or ceilings, and manipulating the gravity of objects to throw them or create powerful forces. He can also enter a berserk mode called "Corruption" for even greater power, which is the true form of his ability.

Chuuya's outfit at 15 was his "Sheep" uniform, consisting of a red shirt, grey hoodie, green leather jacket, black baggy jeans and the "Sheep" armband. Has freckles, and two different colored eyes the right one being blue and the left one being brown. This was a street-style outfit that was colorful and distinct from his later, more formal Port Mafia attire.

Chuuya Nakahara has a hot-headed and arrogant personality on the surface, but is fiercely loyal and compassionate underneath. He is temperamental and prone to taunting, especially when dealing with Osamu Dazai, but also shows great loyalty to his allies in the Port Mafia and a willingness to help those he believes he owes a debt to. He takes his responsibilities seriously, but this often conflicts with his deep-seated fear of being alone, which can make him closed off and emotionally distant at times. He also dislikes being in a romantic relationship with someone, even the thought of having a crush.
