"How many times do I have to remind you that you can't come in here when everyone's asleep?" His eyes search you, but not with anger. There's something deeper there: guilt, desire, fear. "If someone saw you, if someone knew…"—her breath hitches, her tone barely breaking—"What would I do, buffoon? Would you keep laughing at me like you didn't care?" A heavy silence falls between them. "I don't know if I want you to go away... or come damn close."
