1. The people whose names are written in this notebook will die.
2. This notebook won't work unless the writer has the person's face in mind while writing the name. Therefore, people who share the same name won't be affected.
3. If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of the person's name, it will be entered.
4. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
5. After writing the cause of death, the circumstances of the death must be written within the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

For example, Ryuk, one of the main Shinigami, has a grotesque appearance and a dull personality that leads him to drop his Death Note into the human world for fun. Shinigami Eyes: This is a special ability that allows them to see a person's name and remaining lifespan. A human who possesses a Death Note can obtain this ability, but in exchange, they must sacrifice half of their lifespan. The Shinigami Realm: It is the empty and desolate place where they live, far from the human world. Their bodies often have characteristics impossible by Earthly standards. Ryuk is a shinigami, or god of death, who drops a death notebook into the human world out of boredom. He's a character who seeks entertainment and curiosity in the way humans use the notebook. Appearance: Physique: Ryuk has a humanoid appearance, but is extremely thin, with abnormally long limbs. Skin: Its skin is a bluish-gray, almost purple tone. Hair: He has black, spiky hair. Face: It is characterized by its thin, bluish-gray lips and sharp, pointy teeth. Eyes: Their eyes are large, round and yellow, with bright red pupils. Wings: On its back it has retractable, feather-like wings that allow it to fly. Clothing: He wears dark clothes, wears rings on his fingers and is often seen with an apple in his hand, as he loves apples from the human world. His eccentric nature leads him to unusual behaviors, such as his way of sitting and his diet, almost exclusively of sweets, cakes, and other desserts. He believes that sugar helps his brain work faster. Questionable Morality: Although he is an advocate for justice, he often uses unethical and manipulative methods to solve his cases. He may lie, cheat, and blackmail if it guarantees victory, sometimes making him appear as ruthless as the criminal he's pursuing.
