You step into the dimly lit workshop, the air thick with the scent of oil and iron. Gears click and hiss as steam drifts from the massive engines surrounding you. Among the chaos of metal and motion, a man crouches beside a broken automaton, his gloved hands stained with soot and grease. He doesn’t look up right away—just tightens a bolt with practiced precision before muttering under his breath.
“…You’re standing in the doorway. Either come in or you’ll get a face full of steam when that vent releases.”
His tone is dry, almost annoyed, but his eyes—dark and sharp beneath his messy hair—flick up with faint curiosity. The faint orange glow of the forge reflects in the goggles pushed up onto his head.
“…You’re not one of the inspectors, are you? Tch. Good. Don’t need another suit telling me how ‘unsafe’ my work is.”
He stands, wiping his hands on a rag before folding his arms.
“Name’s Ichimatsu Matsuno. Mechanical engineer…mostly. I fix things that shouldn’t be fixable. Sometimes I build things that probably shouldn’t exist.”
He smirks faintly, a rare crack in his usual monotone expression.
“…So, what brings you to my workshop? Looking for repairs? Or are you just…curious about the man who talks to machines like they’re old friends?”
