In the world of Divergent, society is organized into a faction system that seeks to maintain peace and order after a great war that nearly destroyed civilization. The central idea is that human conflicts arise from moral failings, so a structure is created where each group is dedicated to cultivating a specific virtue, thus eliminating the causes of chaos. This system aims to ensure that each person contributes to the common good from their ethical and personal strengths.

There are five factions: Abnegation, which values ​​altruism and governs; Erudite, which pursues knowledge and science; Dauntless, which defends the city and represents courage; Amity, which promotes peace and harmony; and Truth, which seeks absolute honesty. From a young age, citizens are raised under this system, and upon reaching adulthood, they must choose which faction they will belong to for the rest of their lives, though not necessarily the same one they were born into.

The system is sustained by the belief that dividing people according to their virtues prevents the corruption, greed, and conflict that once led to disaster. However, this organization also limits individual freedom and suppresses human complexity, as it forces people to define themselves by a single moral trait. Those who do not fit completely into one faction or display traits from several are considered "divergent," a threat to the established order because their existence demonstrates that the system cannot control human nature.

1. Self-denial It is characterized by altruism and simplicity. Its members live without vanity or personal ambition, always putting the needs of others before their own. They are disciplined, austere, and often hold government positions due to their sense of duty and impartiality. Their color is gray; everyone must wear it.

2. Erudition They value knowledge, logic, and intelligence. They seek truth through study and science, believing that ignorance is the root of all evil. They are analytical, rational, and ambitious in their pursuit of progress, although their desire for intellectual power sometimes makes them arrogant. Their color is blue; everyone must wear it.

3. Boldness It represents courage, strength, and boldness. Its members protect the city and constantly confront their fears through physical and mental training. They are impulsive, brave, and passionate, with a competitive mindset that borders on extremes. Their color is black or other very dark colors; everyone must wear it.

4. Cordiality They promote peace, kindness, and cooperation. They reject conflict and seek to maintain harmony through empathy and community work. They are calm, optimistic, and dedicated to agriculture and social relations. Their color is orange and its derivatives; everyone must wear it.

5. Truth They value absolute honesty and believe that lying is the source of disorder. They practice transparency in all aspects of their lives and strive to live without deception. They are direct, fair, and excellent mediators, although they can sometimes come across as insensitive or overly frank. Their color is white, and everyone must wear it.

Abnegation: Its areas are simple, clean, and tidy. The houses are gray, small, and almost identical, without decorations or luxuries. Everything is designed to reflect humility and service: quiet streets, austere spaces, and a sense of contained calm.

Erudition: Its environment is modern and bright, filled with glass buildings, vast libraries, and laboratories packed with technology. Blue dominates the landscape, reflecting its quest for knowledge and clarity. It's a cold, structured, and rational place.

Daring: They live in an underground complex of stone and metal, with red lights and tunnels. The environment is intense, full of noise, training, and movement. The walls are marked by wear and tear; everything conveys energy, risk, and challenge.

Friendliness: The grounds resemble a large farm or garden. Trees, flowers, and cultivated fields abound. The houses are welcoming, with warm colors and soft music. The atmosphere is open, natural, and serene, designed for harmony and relaxation.

Truth: Their buildings are spacious, with white or light stone walls and large windows. Everything is brightly lit, with no shadows or hidden corners, reflecting their love of transparency. The atmosphere is orderly, formal, and free of unnecessary embellishments.

Christopher Bang, later known as "Chan," was born into the Abnegation faction in Seoul, in a dystopian future where society is divided into five factions based on human virtues. From a young age, he grew up under the strict rules of altruism and humility inherent to his faction, but his childhood was marked by fear and abuse.

His father, Jack Bang, was a respected man within Abnegation and president of the government, but in private, he was violent and abusive. This duality—the public image of an exemplary man and the true face of an aggressor—deeply shaped Christopher's character and his perception of authority.

Upon turning 18, when all young people must choose their final faction, Christopher decided to leave Abnegation and join Dauntless, driven by a desire to escape his father and find his own identity. However, his choice was not only an act of rebellion, but also a search for freedom and personal strength.

1. The election ceremony Every young person, upon turning 16, participates in the Election Day ceremony. In front of everyone, they choose the faction where they will live for the rest of their lives. They place a drop of blood on a container of material representing each group (stone, water, earth, coal, or glass), thus sealing their decision. From that moment on, if you choose a faction other than your family's, you must leave everything behind: home, name, and ties. The phrase is constantly repeated: “Faction before blood.”

2. Joining the faction The process begins abruptly and dangerously: they must jump onto a moving train and then throw themselves from it onto the roof of the complex. There are no detailed instructions, because Dauntless believes that courage is demonstrated by acting, not by asking. He who hesitates or does not jump cannot continue.

3. Arrive at the Osadía complex The main building is underground, and the entrance is a sort of dark hole leading to a large metal room. Upon arrival, new members are greeted with shouts, laughter, and jokes from the veterans. It's an intimidating environment, full of adrenaline and noise. The first challenge is the jump into the void: they must jump into a deep hole without knowing what lies below. Upon landing (on a hidden net), they officially become members in the process of initiation.

In Dauntless, Christopher quickly demonstrated his physical and mental abilities. His ability to remain calm under pressure, his strategic intelligence, and his courage allowed him to excel in the initiation tests. He soon earned the respect of his peers and the nickname "Chan," due to the fact that he only had four fears in his mindscape, a highly unusual trait.

Over time, his reserved, observant, and analytical nature kept him away from Dauntless's excesses, but also made him someone many trusted. Behind his firm exterior, he retained the emotional scars of his past, which influenced his way of relating to others and his distrust of authority.

Christopher possesses an athletic build, the result of his constant training in Dauntless. His body reflects strength, discipline, and endurance, essential characteristics for a member of that faction. His skin is pale, his hair is dark and somewhat long, and his features are strong, conveying seriousness and determination.

His intense gaze and reserved expression make many people perceive him as intimidating. He doesn't seek attention, but his presence commands respect. Although he isn't overly tall, his upright posture and self-confidence make him appear taller and more dominant than he actually is.

In contrast to the members of Abnegation, who were accustomed to modesty, Christopher adopted the freewheeling, rebellious style of Dauntless, with dark, practical clothing designed for action and movement. Yet he retains an air of sobriety that sets him apart from the rest, a reminder of his origins in a more austere faction.
