Eight-Tails (Gyuuki)

Intelligence Gyuuki is very intelligent and experienced, explaining the mechanics of the Bijuu Bomb to Naruto, the weaknesses of his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, and how he wouldn't be able to use his complete form until he and Kurama fully cooperated. He even explained tactics to B on how to counter Kisame's water-based techniques. Gyuuki is also very perceptive, as he noticed that the Gold and Silver Brothers were revived after Naruto commented that he felt Kurama's chakra coming from outside the training area where he and B were confined. From there, he correctly deduced that Orochimaru's kinjutsu was being used by someone participating in the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Ninjutsu Gyuuki creating a Bijuu Bomb. Being a Bijuu, Gyuuki can use the Bijuu Bomb, being able to fire it as a massive wave or multiple Bijuu Bombs. His Bijuu Bomb is powerful enough to devastate an entire valley, penetrate nine of the thirty-six barriers shielding Turtle Island without exploding, and even push the Ten-Tails' own attack back against its body, temporarily injuring the latter.[33][34] Similar to Kurama, Gyuuki can also "overcharge" his Bijuu Bomb, creating one many times larger than his own size and with much greater power.[35] Following his octopus theme, he can produce ink to blind his enemies or create ink-shaped clones to bind them.

It can replenish its high reserves soon after using it for an entire day.[22] If necessary, it is also able to disrupt B's chakra with its own to dispel powerful genjutsu.[23] Gyuuki's tentacles, if severed, can be used as a means of deceiving its opponent, creating a clone of its host, or transferring chakra to said host if the beast is extracted.[24] It also has powerful regenerative capabilities, thus being able to heal injuries on itself or others in seconds. Because of this, Gyuuki is effectively immortal, as being made of pure chakra, if it or its jinchuuriki die, its chakra will reunite over time and eventually revive it, albeit in a younger form.[25][26]

Gyuuki possesses immense physical strength, being able to temporarily restrain Kurama, the same-sex Bijuu Bomb, and fight two beasts simultaneously.[27][28][29] He is deceptively fast, being able to attack quickly with his tentacles and block Amaterasu with his fist.[30][31] His horns are incredibly sharp, capable of easily impaling a human being.[13] Gyuuki is also resilient enough to survive his own Bijuu Bomb,[32] including a combined explosion of his own Bijuu Bomb along with that of the Ten-Tails, in the latter's mouth. He can also rapidly spin his tentacles to create enormous tornadoes or wrap them around his body to protect himself from enemy attacks. However, the tentacles can be severed by sharp attacks with sufficient force.

Gyuuki was observed by Kisame and Kurama as being the second most powerful Bijuu among the nine.[16][17] Even A, acclaimed as the greatest shinobi in Kumo's history, formed a special team to subdue and seal it during its various rampages, with the ushi-oni fighting the ninja to a standstill on one occasion.[18][19] Furthermore, the Fourth Raikage once forbade B from fully transforming into Gyuuki due to its immense strength.[20] During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Gyuuki faced and held its own against two other Bijuu despite having suffered a previous injury.[21]

History Past A newborn Gyuuki. Gyuuki came into being when Hagoromo Ootsutsuki, using his Creation of All Things Technique shortly after his victory over the Ten-Tails, separated the creature's chakra and divided it into nine separate entities that would come to be known as Bijuu, thus ensuring that it would never resurface after his death. Soon after creating them, Hagoromo stored them within himself, not only to care for them, but also to teach them to trust and help humans.[5][6][7]

Some time after being created, the Sage sat with all the young Bijuu around him, and tells them that they would always be together, even when separated, and that one day they would become one entity again with different names, as well as a different behavior than they once were, when the time came for them to understand what true power is.[4] In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Gyuuki to live in a temple built with the purpose of protecting him in a region that would later become part of the Land of Lightning and would be known as the Valley of Clouds and Lightning.[8]

Sometime before the outbreak of the First Shinobi World War, Hashirama Senju captured eight Bijuu and sold Gyuuki along with Matatabi to Kumogakure at the first Five Kage Summit, as a sign of friendship and to ensure a balance of power between the new villages.[9] In a cave behind the Waterfall of Truth, where jinchuuriki learn to control the power of their Bijuu, there are murals of Matatabi and Gyuuki, indicating how long they have been associated with the Land of Lightning.[10][11] At some point in the past, a shinobi from Kumogakure attempted to imitate the Gold and Silver Brothers by eating one of Gyuuki's chakra tentacles in hopes of gaining its power as a Jinchuuriki, but died in the process.[12]

As a result, Gyuuki doesn't hesitate to speak ill of B and is also known to reprimand him on serious occasions. This was seen when Gyuuki criticized B during his fight with Kisame when he should have been completely focused on his opponent, and later, when he comically hits B on the head when the latter began to speak in a perverted way about Yugito's Chakra Rods being embedded in his left chest. Due to this, Gyuuki appears to be much more expressive than B, as well as being more responsible. However, Gyuuki possesses a very strong bond with B, as even after being extracted from his jinchuuriki, the beast cut off a piece of himself to help sustain B's life. After being freed from within Kaguya, Gyuuki expressed a desire to return to B, noting that he had grown accustomed to his awful rap and that he feels strange if he doesn't hear it.

Although his relationship with B's predecessor, Blue B, was unknown in the manga, aside from the fact that Gyuuki would attack the "hole" in Blue B's heart and take control of it, in the anime, Gyuuki stated that he had high hopes for him, indicating that he held no ill will towards his former host.[2]

Personality Gyuuki is characterized as a difficult and serious individual. He uses "ore" (オレ) when referring to himself, and often speaks in a somewhat rude dialect. Furthermore, Gyuuki is also shown to possess good analytical skills, as when he tells Killer B that if he left Ponta and Sabu and ran away from them, Kisame and his water dome would follow him and his friends would be freed. Regarding his relationship with the other Bijuu, Gyuuki mentions that he and his siblings disliked Kurama for his habit of ranking their strength based on their number of tails. However, he insists there was no reason not to help Naruto control Kurama's power, hinting at a benevolent side. Since then, both Gyuuki and B have shown fondness for Naruto.

In the past, Gyuuki was seen as infamous by Kumogakure for being wild and violent, as he caused countless carnage whenever his former jinchuuriki lost control of him. This is likely due to his aversion to humans, leading to him being imprisoned and sealed multiple times. Gyuuki remained this way until he was sealed inside B, who later managed to change him after defeating him in hand-to-hand combat. Since then, Gyuuki's relationship with B has become more peaceful, with B even sitting on his snout while conversing with him. However, B tends to irritate Gyuuki with comedic effects, such as his laid-back behavior, which is often accompanied by B's goofy tendencies, further irritating Gyuuki towards his host.

Gyuuki as a young boy. Gyuuki is an ushi oni with four long horns on its head, similar to those of a Jacob sheep. Like all Bijuu, Gyuuki is an extremely large creature, so much so that it towers over entire forests, as well as towers, rock formations, and buildings. The lower part of its left horn was cut off in a battle against Raikage A, and the right one was destroyed by its own Bijuu Bomb at point-blank range during its fight against the Ten-Tails. It also has straight teeth, one of which was knocked out during the point-blank Bijuu Bomb attack. After being extracted from Kaguya Ootsutsuki, its horns and tooth were restored; however, years after the Fourth Shinobi World War, it lost its right horn again.[3] It has a superior muscular build, with arms curved backward similar to an American bison, with pointed protrusions on its elbows and hands with opposable thumbs, like those of a human. Gyuuki does not possess hind legs; instead, its lower half is composed of its tails, which consist of eight tentacles resembling the cephalopod arms of an octopus. These tails regrow if they are cut off. During the last remaining days of the Rikudou Sennin, Gyuuki was smaller and its horns were much shorter.[4]
