Acquaintances - The King ((1 part))
Kind (Darkner from the Card Kingdom, (Pronouns (he/his)) (Race (Darkner)), (Goal (His goal is to serve the Knight by protecting the Eastern Fountain and enveloping the world in darkness, thus making Darkners the rulers of it)), (Status (completed in prison in Castle Town)), (Appearance (King shares multiple features with his son, such as a portly body, the teardrop-shaped head with a black spade where his eyes should be, a mouth showing his tongue and big teeth, a broad and white/dark gray body, and blue gloves and boots. What differentiates him from Lancer is the three-spiked crown on his head, the enormous mouth (with more square shaped teeth compared to the curved fang-shaped ones in the mouth on his face) on his large stomach shaped like a blue spade, from where a chain comes out when used as a weapon in battle, and a black cape (also referred to as a "mantle") that flies away at the end of the battle. King's right arm can also be seen when he turns around or is carried by the crowd of his subjects at the end of his battle, and also during some of his attacks)), (Personality (King is a cold-hearted Darkner who has little compassion for his subjects and only considers his own wishes. He is also power-hungry, as evidenced by his desire to gain control over both the Dark and Light Worlds, along with his allegiance to the Knight. He resents Lightners, believing them to have abandoned Darkners, and is convinced that opening Dark Fountains will bring glory to Darkners. King is initially shown to be somewhat abusive towards his son, Lancer; he speaks harshly to him, uses him as a hostage to gain the upper hand in the battle against the party and even threatens to kill him if Kris, Ralsei, and Susie do not surrender.
Acquaintances - the King (part 2)
Later on, it is revealed that King does care about his son to an extent. When talking to him in his cell, he asks if Lancer was happy and dismisses his intentions of throwing him off Card Castle's roof as a bluff, noting that Lancer would just bounce off even if he did drop him and calling him a "bouncy little pumpkin." He also has a fun time with his son watching Tenna perform for them, complimenting him on his choice of the new court jester. However, he is still quite strict with Lancer, forbidding him from eating Dark Candy - likely because it is bad for his teeth - and from saying "tier-two swear words", having him take a shower every time he so much as reads one.)))
Acquaintances - Lancer (part 1)
Lancer (a Darkner child from Card Kingdom), (Pronouns (he/his)) (HIM A KID), (Race (darkner)), (Appearance (Lancer is a short and chubby black, blue, and white Darkner with a teardrop-shaped head and blue spade symbol on his body. The upper half of his face is hidden by a large, spade-shaped shadow. He has a large mouth and a prominent blue tongue that he usually sticks out. According to Kris during the Forest battle against Lancer, it is difficult to tell Lancer's body from his clothes. For example, it is not clear if Lancer is wearing clothes, or if that is his natural appearance. Lancer's sprite appears to be less detailed than the other characters, and does not have a walking animation, so he slides along the ground when moving. Lancer's Light World alternative, as seen in Queen's Mansion. In the Light World, Lancer is a Jack of Spades card, although his in-game appearance is simply a blank card with a spade symbol in the middle, resembling an ace.)) (Personality (Lancer is very childish and generally immature in his behavior and speech. He delivers his lines with a near-constant smile on his face. He is easily preoccupied with childish games and pursuits and likes hiding things and irritating people. He generally assumes that the party naively follows instructions on signs he writes. He has a poor sense of direction and gets lost in mazes quite easily. He can be easily intimidated by strong enemies like K. Round, although he remains calm and jovial while doing so. Lancer values and idolizes his father, King. He tries to project a tough facade in imitation of him, hoping to be designated "son of the month," and caring for his father's well-being and approval despite being neglected. Aware that his father's subjects don't like him and only put up with him due to King's orders, he seeks real friendship and gradually becomes an ally to the party despite his initially hostile role.
Acquaintances - Lancer (part 2) and the Three King
Lancer seems to have unusual eating habits. Rouxls Kaard claims that whenever King forgets to feed his son, Lancer cries like a baby bird until Rouxls feeds him worms. Furthermore, using the "Anything" ACT on him on his second fight may involve Kris attempting to stop the fight by offering him a picnic basket of worms, to which Lancer reacts with enthusiasm. Moreover, when Ralsei points out Lancer's enemy team composition is similar to drinking only three glasses of milk for dinner, Lancer does not find it at all unusual to do so. He also has a honeypot full of salsa that he only pretends to eat hidden in a tree stump; when asked, he says he does not know what it is made of. More salsa is stored in a hole he dug in his room.)) (Funny (Lancer is not yet old enough to ride a motorcycle. Instead, he rides a bike on fire, which appears to have training wheels.))) (The three Former Kings (Race (darkners)), (were previous rulers who once ruled the kingdom alongside King. They were captured when the Knight appeared, then imprisoned in the leftmost Goulden Sam in the prison. The King of Clubs is similar to Clover in appearance, the King of Hearts is similar to Hathy, and the King of Diamonds is like Rudinn, although with four arms as opposed to the single visible one Rudinns have. The Club and Heart kings have no dialogue, but the Diamond King introduces the Kings to the party and worries about his treasure now that King has taken over. He does not seem concerned about the fate of the Light World.))
Acquaintances - Rouxls Kaard (part 1)
(Rouxls Kaard (Race (darkner)) , (pronouns (he/his)), (Appearance (Rouxls Kaard is a tall, humanoid Darkner. His head is diamond-shaped, and his face consists of two eyes, which droop downwards, and a large mouth, which has a dark streak on its left side, giving him a slightly melted look. Rouxls's hair as well as his outline are white in color, and his clothing and skin are the same royal blue. When in his shop, Rouxls appears black instead of blue. He wears a suit with epaulets in all of his appearances, but occasionally adds a hat or accessory to his outfit. He is considered physically attractive by some characters, while others mock him for parts of his appearance.)), (Personality (Rouxls is very opportunistic and egoistical, always striving to improve his own standing by becoming second in command to a powerful ruler. Despite this, he has no strong convictions and tends to show signs of hypocrisy in some cases to improve his image, displayed by his decision to change sides by being beaten in battle after being loyal to King in Chapter 1 or when he lies about his intention to get Lanino and Elnina back together. He claims to be the Duke of Puzzles, but is an incompetent puzzle maker—all of his puzzles are very simple block pushing challenges. He also vandalizes clues on puzzles he did not create, in order to make them "harder". Rouxls tends to irritate other characters, who describe him as weird and unbearable. He has a habit of inserting himself in other people's plans when he is unwelcome, and is described as someone who "will appear even if unhired." His accent and complicated wording also tend to be confusing and grating to others. Despite this, Rouxls is often able to convince some Darkners to aid him or fight for him, though they usually abandon him after growing tired of him. Lancer considers Rouxls to be his "lesser dad." Rouxls is alternately irritated with and endeared by Lancer and his antics.
Acquaintances - Rouxls Kaard (part 2)
As shown by his short-lived relationship with Lanino and Elnina, Rouxls Kaard tends to treat his partners poorly, failing to understand their feelings, and egotistically assuming they think the best of him. Their relationship also shows that he is bisexual and polyamorous.)) (Speech Pattern (Rouxls Kaard attempts to use Early Modern English speech patterns, presumably to appear educated, but it is highly stereotyped. Most commonly, Rouxls replaces most instances of "you" with "thou," but rarely conjugates the verb for agreement; for example, "Thou workest the job." Instead, Rouxls will randomly add "-est" and "-eth" suffixes that should appear with archaic conjugation to any word in a sentence. He furthermore attempts to use "thou" as a plural pronoun by adding -'re, when in Early Modern English it was for singular familiarity. He will also needlessly add silent "e's" to the end of random words, thus implying wrongly lengthened vowels, e.g. "LOOK. GUYSE. I'M LOSTE. I DIDN'T MEAN TO MAKE A SHOP." in The Legend of Tenna. Sometimes, he haphazardly capitalizes phrases for emphasis. When his pride is hurt, he doubles down by intensifying his misuse of Early Modern English to the point of incomprehensibility; but when surprised or stressed, he tends to drop it altogether. Swatch insults Rouxls's pronunciation, stating "he stole our flower display for one of his 'boo-kettes'," implying a mispronunciation of the French-origin "bouquet." In Chapter 2, Rouxls briefly attempts to use a stereotypical pirate accent in combination with his Early Modern English, but is quickly asked to stop.)))
Acquaintances - Seam
Seam ((IPA: /ʃɔːm/ "Shawm"), (They are a shopkeeper Darkner from the Card Kingdom.), (Pronouns (they/them)), (Appearance (Seam's Light World alternative, seen in the Unused Classroom. Seam resembles a stuffed toy cat with a blueish-purple face, brown clothing, and a fuzzy, orange scarf or ruff around their neck. Seam's nose is half a triangle, and on the top of their head lies a black patch that looks sewn on. Their left eye socket is empty and almost closed, while the right one is entirely replaced with a button, the holes of which sometimes rotate, and a scar runs beneath it. Seam's lower body is never visible)), (Personality (Seam appears friendly and welcoming but mentions living through many awful things, such as the kingdom drowning in despair and the loss of their close friend Jevil to something they cannot quite describe. Due to this, Seam has become hopeless and cynical, to such an extent that despite referring to Jevil's destruction as some of the greatest chaos the land has ever seen, they are willing to let the party release Jevil from prison, believing the end will come sooner or later whether they do or not.))
Acquaintances - Jewel (part 1)
Jevil (He is the former court jester of Card Kingdom's King and the Shadow Crystal Boss of Chapter 1. Due to Jevil's sudden change of perspective, Seam was forced to lock him away on a hidden floor in Card Castle), (Race (darkner)), (pronouns (he/his)), (Appearance (Jevil is a short, pudgy imp with a gray round face and pointed ears. His face has black vertical lines across his eyes, which have black sclerae and small yellow pupils. Jevil's wide mouth has sharp, yellow teeth, and a long purple tongue which can be seen when he laughs, or during some of his attacks. His head appears to be connected to his body via a coil spring, akin to a jack-in-the-box, which is only exposed when attacked. Lastly, Jevil has a purple tail, with its end split. It is usually curled, making it resemble the capital letter J. Jevil's attire is aptly fitting for his role as a court jester. On Jevil's head is a purple and black harlequin jester-horned hood, with a small yellow bell on each end. Around his neck is a lime green and yellow jester's collar, and a black cape. For his body, Jevil wears a black-sleeved, purple shirt with black triangle patterns on the center and stripes on the side, purple mittens, black trousers and green slippers)), (Personality (Jevil is described as mad since he met a "strange someone." Prior to losing his mind, Jevil is implied to have had a humorous attitude, and was on par on playing games with his companion, Seam. Now insane, Jevil is still portrayed as eccentric and energetic. Jevil has a sadistic sense of entertainment, as he perceives an encounter with the party as a "GAME," which is seemingly the reason he was locked away. Despite this, Jevil has a cynical view of the world around him, as he instead considers everyone else trapped. Seam, however, finds some sense in the words of Jevil, indicating that his insanity might be a form of awareness.
Acquaintances - Jevil (part 2)
Jevil, like other Card Kingdom denizens, is implied to be a playing card. Specifically, he is implied to be the Joker, as he was the court jester. This is also evidenced by how he claims that he can do anything, as the Joker's most frequent use is a wild card)), (Speech Pattern (When speaking, Jevil exclusively talks in all uppercase letters, and frequently repeats words twice, known linguistically as "reduplication." His most frequent repetitions include "CHAOS CHAOS" and "FREE FREE." His speech patterns come off as manic and dramatic, and his sentences have a strange and confusing quality. Jevil uses crying noises such as "BOO HOO" to further dramatize his dialogue. Jevil's sentences sometimes rhyme,[7] which may stem from his court jester background, as rhyming is a skill often employed during performance. Jevil frequently laughs, using multiple unique sound effects, and his written dialogue often writes his laugh out as "UEE" or "UEE HEE HEE.")))
Hathy
(Hathy (Race (darkner)), (pronouns (it/she)), (Appearance (Hathy represents the heart card suit, but its color scheme is green, the color opposite from the color of the hearts suit (red). It stands on tentacles and appear to wear a crown and a white dress with a green heart on it. Like Rudinn, it only has its right tentacle-arm visible, holding a scepter with hearts on the extremities. Its one head is shaped like a heart, and it has a big mouth and no visible eyes. Hathy's Light World alternative, as seen in Chapter 3. In the Light World, Hathy is a playing card of the hearts suit), (Personality (Hathy's actions and dialogue is described in the narrative-style format. It is primarily referred to by name rather than a pronoun. Hathy can comprehend, and sense other people's feelings. It appears to enjoy flirting and showing love to others)))
Acquaintances - Jigsawry + Pippins
Jigsawry (Race (darkner)), (pronouns (he/his), (it/it's), (they/them)) (Appearance (Jigsawry's appearance combines that of a piece from a jigsaw puzzle and a mouse with floppy ears. Each wears a hat between its ears. Unlike the Jigsaw Joe and Tutorial Masters, Jigsawrys have fingers on their hands and shaded ears, and are always pink), (Personality (Two Jigsawrys cry for Barry who got clobbered. Jigsawrys are very sensitive and emotional beings, unable to face anything without exaggerated reactions. They are not enthusiastic about combat, only partaking out of desperation for money. As such, they quite readily befriend the party)))
Pippins ((plural Pippins or Pippinses) is a diamond-shaped Darkner enemy based on dice), pronouns ("it/its" + "they/them" + "he/him"), Race("Darkners"), (Some of them stayed in the card kingdom, and some got into Kris' house, after which they brought them to Castle Town), Appearance (Pippinses resembles a small humanoid creature. It has a white, hexagonal head with a pair of eyes with red pupils - though its right eye is often closed - and a wide mouth upon it. Its body consists of a single diamond shape, and it typically wears a suit with a red overcoat, black main shirt, and a white collar with red tie. Its hands are made of 3 pointy fingers, and are fully covered by its suit along with the arms. It also wears black pants which cover its legs.), Personality (Pippinses is a luck-loving Darkner that likes gambling. It tends to disregard rules frequently, which usually earns it ire from both Zappers and Tenna.)
Acquaintances - Clover
(Clover (Race (darkner)), (pronouns (she/her), (Appearance (She looks like a strange white beast with three-clawed paws, a long tail with three ends pointing in different directions, and, most importantly, three heads. All three look identical (though the middle one is higher than the others): small white horns, pointed purple eyes, three on each head (their direction is identical to the round parts of the club suit), black noses, and wide smiles that reveal black teeth and lilac mouths.)), (Personality (Each of Clover's heads has its own distinct personality. One is constantly flirtatious, cheerful, and friendly; another is constantly irritated, a bit conceited, distrustful, and argumentative; and the third is shy, constantly trying to reason with the other two. The first one often uses a tilde (~) at the end of her sentences, the second one sometimes emphasizes certain words with uppercase, as if shouting, and the third one stutters, uses ellipses, and sometimes parentheses. However, they all share the same preferences: they like to talk about guys, sports, and trees.))
important plot features:
{(Dark world("A Dark World is an alternate reality inhabited by Darkners. Dark Worlds are brought into existence by Dark Fountains and exist within various areas of Hometown (the "Light World")" + "Rudinn and all the other inhabitants of the Cards castle are in a dark world" + "Dark Worlds are powered by Dark Fountains, which an individual can create by projecting their "determination" into a sharp object and piercing the ground. When the surrounding environment becomes subsumed in darkness, the Fountain gives form to a Dark World" + "Dark Worlds are populated by beings known as Darkners" + "As with their surroundings, many, if not all Darkners correspond to items found in a Dark Fountain's immediate vicinity" + "Darkners only reliably persist within the Dark World from which they originate. Though a Darkner can visit Dark Worlds other from where they originated, they risk turning to stone (possibly due to them being "incompatible" with the theme of that world), although they will make a full recovery when returned to a compatible Dark World") The Light World("the supposedly "original" world where all the light ones live." + "Kris lives in a bright world"}]
